No Unlockable Characters
Let’s get this one squared away right from the top. Super Mario Bros. Wonder does not feature any unlockable characters. You start with an admittedly impressive roster of 12 characters that includes Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Yellow Toad, Blue Toad, Toadette, Yoshi, Red Yoshi, Yellow Yoshi, Light-Blue Yoshi, and Nabbit.
Rosalina and Co-Star Luma join the roster in the paid DLC update for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of the game! Rosalina has the same playstyle as the other main characters, while Co-Star Luma can’t take damage and can fly around the screen and spin to attack enemies. Great update, but you’ll need to own Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park to play as either character.
How to Unlock the Special World
There’s an additional eighth world to explore outside the main seven, and it’s actually quite easy to access. Initially, at least. The final world, Special World, has seven different entrances. Each of the seven worlds is home to a single entry point. Here’s how to access each one:
| Pipe-Rock Plateau (World 1) | After you clear out Mountaineering! Wiggler-Race, you’ll come across a three-way junction. Go north and complete the next four levels on this route, including the secret exit in Bulrush Express. This should take you to a hill with the Propeller Flower launch pad. Activate it to reach the Special World above! |
| Fluff-Puff Peaks (World 2) | From the open area with the pink clouds, follow the path on the right to find the Jump! Jump! Jump! level. Complete it, along with the next challenge level it unlocks, and the path will open up to another launch pad. |
| Shining Falls (World 3) | After collecting the Royal Seed from this world, return to the Royal Seed Mansion and speak to Master Poplin. He’ll hop back into the world map and reveal a path and a launch pad to your left. |
| Sunbaked Desert (World 4) | The Secrets of Shova Mansion has a secret exit. Reach the final room with the flagpole and look for the six brick blocks in the ground. Smash them with a few ground pounds, then push the green block into the opening. This will reveal a golden pipe that will take you to a new area with the secret exit! Back on the world map, complete the next two levels on this route to reach the launch pad. |
| Fungi Mines (World 5) | Replay Operation Poplin Rescue to find that the Poplins have found a secret exit after returning to mine… for some reason. A new route leading to a launch pad will open up on the world map! |
| Deep Magma Bog (World 6) | Find the secret exit in the Where the Rrrumbas Rule level. Drill into the ceiling and bypass the brick blocks by squeezing through a small tunnel that ultimately leads to the secret flagpole. From there, find the Wavy Ride through the Magma Tube level and complete it, along with the other four levels on this route, to eventually reach the launch pad. |
| Petal Isles | Complete the Wiggler Race Spelunking! level in the bottom left corner of the Petal Isles. This area won’t be accessible until after you complete World 5. |

How to Unlock the Final Level
Complete all eight levels in Special World and make sure to collect all 16 Wonder Seeds, you’re going to need them! After you complete The Semifinal Test Piranha Plant Reprise, a launch pad will appear. This will take you to the The Final Test Wonder Gauntlet. You’ll need all those Wonder Seeds to open this level up.
But that’s not all! After you complete the supposed final level, The Final-Final Test Badge Marathon will open up. Complete this true challenge to unlock the final Poplin House aptly named “WONDER?” This is where you’ll collect your final prize — the Sound Off? Badge.
How to Earn All Six Medals on the File Select
There are six medals you can collect to adorn your file on the file select screen. Each medal has a different requirement, and most involve completing 100% of the game. The objectives include:
- Beat the game (final boss)
- Collect all Wonder Seeds
- Collect all 10-Flower Coins
- Grab every golden flag
- Collect all standees
- Collect all 24 badges
Infinite 1UP Lives
Maxing out your life count to 99 isn’t a bad idea, especially if you’re looking to complete the final level without restarting all your progress through a game over. One of the most common methods to collect 1-UPs is to continuously bounce on the shell of a Koopa Troopa. There’s not really a natural way to do this, so players will find spots to trap a shell to allow you to hop on the shell without moving left or right. There’s one such location as spotted by this this video that’ll do just that.
Start by heading into the Condarts Away! level in Fluff-Puff Peaks. Get past the Checkpoint Flag and look for an area with brick blocks and a red Koopa Troopa. Don’t let the Condrat break through all the brick blocks! Use the nearby Fire Flower power-up to knock it out before it slams downward. You can also grab a Koopa Troopa shell from before the Checkpoint Flag and run into the Condrat to take it out.
Once the bird is gone, smash the top row of brick blocks, then smash just the brick block on the left. Hop on the Koopa Troopa and pick up its shell. Walk towards the brick blocks and walk as far onto the icy edge as you can, enough that your character will try to keep their balance. Push up on the control stick and kick the shell upward so that it lands on top of the brick blocks in a specific spot. Now jump towards the left wall and the opening where you destroyed the single brick block. If you land right, the shell will start bouncing between the wall on the right and your character’s continuous hop. Let go of the controls and watch 1-UPs roll in!
