Find the location of every Star Coin in World 6 in our New Super Mario Bros. 2 walkthrough and guide, complete with images.
There are 30 Star Coins to collect in World 6. These collectibles can be found in the ten main levels of this world, with each containing three Star Coins. There’s also a bonus rainbow course but it does not feature any Star Coins. World 6 is unlocked after defeating Ludwig Koopa in World 5. Defeating Bowser in this world’s castle level completes the main portion of the game!
Our Star Coins guide lists each coin in the order that they appear in the level. We’ll make note if a specific power-up is required to snag the Star Coin!
World 6-1
Star Coin 1
The first Star Coin can be found above a short tunnel. Wait for the volcanic debris to pause for a moment before running up to grab the Star Coin.
Star Coin 2
After the Checkpoint Flag, hit the switch that’ll start slowly create a path over the lava. Eventually you’ll run into a Star Coin surrounded by blocks. The volcanic debris can break through these blocks, so allow them to create an opening as you avoid them on your side.
Star Coin 3
Right at the very end, stand against the wall opposite of the flagpole. Jump to reveal a hidden block and a beanstalk. Climb into the sky where you’ll find your Star Coin in the next room.
World 6-Ghost House
Okay, finding the exit is not easy in this one, so I’m making an exception in this guide for this level! To get to the normal exit, start the level and hit the switch to rip the platform out of time and space. Drop to the floor and enter the door on the right. Run all the way to the right and enter the only door around. This will take you to the door below the floor. Incredible architectural engineering. Hit the switch on the left to drop the nearby wall. Run all the way to the left. Get the strategically placed Boo to move to reveal another switch. Hit it, then use the lowered ceiling to enter a new door above. If this sounds familiar, it’s the route to get to the second Star Coin. Drop down and activate the switch to reveal said Star Coin. Don’t exit through the bottom door! Instead, jump back up to find another switch. Hit it to reveal another path beyond the wall. Enter the door and you’ll be outside with the flagpole.
Star Coin 1
After hitting the switch at the start, drop down and enter the yellow gates on the right. Hit the switch, then quickly make your way to the top where the Star Coin waits.
Star Coin 2
From the first room, enter the door on the right. In the next room, run all the way to the right and enter the door. Hit the switch and run all the way to the left. Hit the switch behind the Boo and enter the door at the end of the new path in the ceiling. In the next room, drop down and hit the switch to reveal the Star Coin.
Star Coin 3
You know that door that leads to the door right below it? Enter that door again and hit the switch to your left. This time reenter the top door. This will seemingly take you back to the lower door, but you’re actually in a new room. You’ll know this by going right and seeing the three blocks instead of a Gold Ring. Go all the way right and hit the switch that the Big Boo is hiding. Enter the new door. In the next room, hit the switch and wall jump up to the third Star Coin.
World 6-2
Star Coin 1
After you see Micro Goombas, the first Star Coin will be floating above. Wait for the Bone Coaster to rise up allowing you to jump up and grab it. If you grabbed the spring from earlier, that can help get you up there too.
Star Coin 2
On the second Bone Coaster, as you are passing the second Star Coin encased in bricks, get on the highest bone of the bone Coaster and jump to smash through.
Star Coin 3
As the lava is rising while on the Bone Coaster, use a Bob-omb to throw against the unbreakable blocks blocking a Star Coin on the left wall. Make sure to grab one earlier so you have time to dip into the alcove and jump back to safety.
World 6-A
Star Coin 1
As you are running along, you will come across a line of four Dry Bones. At the end, a Star Coin floats in the air. Use the last Dry Bones as a boost to get the Star Coin. You can also jump from the area on the right, but that’ll cost you time!
Star Coin 2
This Star Coin is pretty hard to avoid. There are two sinking platform with a Star Coin resting in the air between them. Jump from one platform to the other to grab the Star Coin.
Star Coin 3
Super Leaf required. At one point you will see three blocks with a Dry Bones on top. Defeat the Dry Bones and as Raccoon Mario, glide to the left. There’s a Super Leaf in one of the blocks in case you’re only normal-sized Mario. You should see coins and then a platform with two Super Dry Bones walking about. Grab the last Star Coin and fly out before the lava reaches the platform.
World 6-B
Star Coin 1
Shortly after you begin using the third of three elevator lifts at the start of the level, keep your lift towards the bottom of the level, alternating between going up and down to maintain your level. The Star Coin will be in this bottom area but a little later on!
Star Coin 2
Just before entering the green pipe leading to the next area, turn around and jump on top of the two Question Blocks. Stand on top of the right one and jump to reveal a hidden block and beanstalk. Climb up to find another room with an elevator lift. Use it to reach the Star Coin behind the colored wall on the right.
Star Coin 3
After the Checkpoint Flag, hop onto the next elevator lift and stay close to the sky as you move to the right. Eventually you will come across the last Star Coin in front of a Banzai Bill cannon. Avoid the Banzai Bill and grab the last Star Coin.
World 6-3
Star Coin 1
When the pink mushroom extends outward, jump onto its edge and crouch. If you’re on the side where the blocks are cleared out on the bottom row, you’ll be yanked right to the Star Coin.
Star Coin 2
After the Checkpoint Flag, look for a yellow pipe guarded by a Fire Bro. Enter the pipe and head for the Gold Ring in the middle. Take out the now golden Fire Bros and grab the Star Coin on the right.
Star Coin 3
Instead of going into the yellow pipe at the end, run across the top to find another room with the last Star Coin. To get there, run across the line of bricks at the top of the level.
World 6-Tower
Star Coin 1
In the first half of the level, stay along the right wall and you’ll across two burners side by side. Hit the bottom of each burner to temporarily disable the flame, then hop on top. Do the same for the burner above to open up a path to the Star Coin above.
Star Coin 2
TO the left of the Checkpoint Flag is a door you can access by disabling a burner. Enter it and begin hopping on the blocks in between bursts of fire from the burners. They always shoot out fire in the same direction, so you’ll always know where you can stand safely. Star Coin is at the top!
Star Coin 3
As you are riding the platform to the top, pay attention to the right and you should notice a green pipe. Make sure to deactivate the burner beneath it, then enter it. Inside, jump on the rotating fire flames as they near the bottom of their circular tracks. Make it to the top for the last Star Coin.
World 6-4
Star Coin 1
At the start of the level, go left to reveal a lone island with the first Star Coin.
Star Coin 2
Shortly before the Checkpoint Flag is a gray brick block behind a Boo. Stand on top of the block and jump slightly to the right to reveal a hidden block and a beanstalk. Climb up to reach a room in the sky. Once there, jump on the rotating blocks to reach the Star Coin.
Star Coin 3
The last Star Coin is in a hole guarded by a ring of Peepas. Wait for an opening in the ring, then jump and slide against one of the wall. Slide enough so that you can wall jump out to safety all while grabbing the Star Coin.
World 6-5
Star Coin 1
As you are making your way through the level, look for a red pipe in one of the ceilings. Perform a wall jump and enter the pipe. Inside, run to the rigt while avoiding the fireballs and the spiked ball behind you. The Star Coin will be near the end.
Star Coin 2
The second Star Coin is placed behind some unbreakable blocks just beyond the Checkpoint Flag. Above you is a yellow, weighted platform. Stand on the left side of it to bring the spiked ball rolling your way. Jump aside and let the spiked ball hit the unbreakable blocks, allowing access to the Star Coin. Make sure to keep the platform as steep as possible before you hop off, otherwise the spike ball might flop past the blocks.
Star Coin 3
Closer to the end, you will see a pair of weighted, yellow platforms. Both have spiked balls on them, and you will need to stand on the side of the platforms to roll them off. Start with the bottom platform, then the second platform. Grab the Star Coin when they are all gone.
World 6-Castle
Star Coin 1
Early in the level you’ll come across a single fire burner pointing upwards. Wait for it to die out and stand on top of it. Jump to reveal a hidden block Hop on top of the new block and jump to the right to find a secret area. The Star Coin is a little to the right!
Star Coin 2
This one it tough, but’s a lot easier if you have a Super Leaf. Once you enter the door and see the Snake Block over the lava, don’t activate it! Instead, use the space by the now closed door to run back and forth and build up your meter. Once it’s full, fly to the right and land on the Star Coin. Float back to the Snake Block and proceed through the level like normal.
Okay, now for the harder and probably intentional method. This one will need some good timing. As you are riding the Snake Block, stay close to the front of it. The moment you can jump to it, do so. Getting the Star Coin is actually the easy part — jumping back onto the Snake Block is the challenge. If you have enough time, great! Jump back on the Snake Block. If not, try wall jumping off the side of the Snake Block, then wall jump off the burner, and this will hopefully get you back on track.
Star Coin 3
You’ll see this last Star Coin during the Koopalings battle. After the Koopalings flash their light, hop onto the Donut Lift directly above the Star Coin, and wait for it to fall. As soon s you get it, jump off and back onto the platform before they can turn you to stone.
