Find the location of every Star Coin in World 3 in our New Super Mario Bros. 2 walkthrough and guide, complete with images.
There are 30 Star Coins to collect in World 3. These collectibles can be found in the ten main levels of this world, with each containing three Star Coins. There’s also a bonus rainbow course and cannon level but they does not feature any Star Coins. World 3 is unlocked after defeating Iggy Koopa in World 1. Defeating Wendy Koopa in this world’s castle level will unlock World 4.

World 3-1
Star Coin 1
After running through the Gold Ring, you’ll come across three floating barrels. Bounce on a Cheep Cheep to reach the Star Coin above. You can also run and jump off the blocks to the left.
Star Coin 2
After the Checkpoint Flag, look up to see a pipe with a Piranha Plant popping out. Use the pipe to wall jump onto the blocks where the second Star Coin waits.
Star Coin 3
Just after the second gold ring are barrels wedged between three pipes. Stand on the barrel to the right to cause it to sink and reveal the last Star Coin.
World 3-2
Star Coin 1
Right at the start, you will see a Star Coin inside a whirlpool. Wait for it to subside and claim your Star Coin.
Star Coin 2
After the Checkpoint Flag, there will be a yellow pipe stuck between two whirlpools. Carefully swim over the top of the pipe and enter it. The next room will be full of Snake Blocks with a Star Coin in the middle. Wait for the right opportunity and grab it.
Star Coin 3
On your way to the end, you will come across a section full of Snake Blocks. A Star Coin rests near the top of the section, and you will have to get it while avoiding Deep-Cheep.
World 3-3
Star Coin 1
Early in the level, hit the red switch just above the spider web to uncover the hidden platform below and use it to enter the yellow pipe. Inside, hit the red switch to create a platform that leads to the Star Coin. Wait until the Scuttle Bug lowers to hop on and grab the Star Coin.
Star Coin 2
After the Checkpoint Flag, enter the yellow pipe that can only be accessed by jumping from the spider web over to the Scuttle Bug. Inside, hit the red switch and start jumping on the platforms. Hop over the Scuttle Bug, then turn back around and hop on it to get that extra boost needed to grab the Star Coin.
Star Coin 3
This is an easy one. On your way to the end, hop from one spider web to the other to collect the last Star Coin.
World 3-A
Star Coin 1
After passing by all the Cheep-Cheeps, stay near the top and you should see the Star Coin.
Star Coin 2
As soon as you leave the red pipe, enter the gap in the ground beneath the ring of Cheep-Cheeps. Hit the switch to stop the water current and quickly swim through to reach the second Star Coin before the water current comes back. You can retry this one if you need to.
Star Coin 3
Continue making it to the end and you should see the last and final Star Coin as you are making your way through the sea of Urchins. You’ll need to quickly swim up shortly before you reach it.
World 3-Tower
Star Coin 1
Right from the start, do not enter the pipe. Instead, hop in the water go left as you avoid the Fish Bone. Drop into the underwater gap in the bottom left corner and you’ll find the Star Coin in the next room.
Star Coin 2
Just before the area with the giant spikes, look for a Star Coin to your right. Avoid the Fish Bones and you should be fine.
Star Coin 3
In the area with the Red Ring, enter the green pipe on the left. Inside, swim over slowly floating above the holes, then collect the last Star Coin.
World 3-4
Star Coin 1
Use the Wiggler as a boost to snag the first Star Coin at the beginning of the level.
Star Coin 2
After the Checkpoint Flag, you will come across three crates aligned together. Jump into the cave on the right and grab the Star Coin at the end. Be quick as you run back to exit as the poison water will rise and kill you if you are still inside.
Star Coin 3
Right after the second Star Coin, jump onto the two crates and use a wall jump to grab the last Star Coin. Again, watch out for the poison water. Exit by going to the right.
World 3-Ghost House
Star Coin 1
After entering the first room, ride the platform moved by Peepas until the very end. Make sure you get the Boo to move away from the Star Coin, and grab it just as the platform is disappearing.
Star Coin 2
In the fourth room with all the doors at the top, use the middle moving platform to reach the second Star Coin. Alternatively, you can use Raccoon Mario to fly to the Star Coin.
Star Coin 3
In the same room as the second Star Coin, use the moving platform on the right and go through the door that is furthest from the second Star Coin. Inside, ride the moving platform until and jump for the last Star Coin before it reaches the end.
World 3-5
Star Coin 1
On your way through the level, you will see a Star Coin trapped with a Blooper behind unbreakable blocks. Swim a little farther until you see a giant rock coming your way. Move back and let the giant rock crash into the blocks.
Star Coin 2
Just after the first Star Coin, enter the next yellow pipe. The Star Coin is easy to get, but the line of Bloopers are the real threat. No worries, as you can avoid them all by staying close to the very bottom as you swim across.
Star Coin 3
Same deal as the first Star Coin, wait for the massive boulder to come forward and crush the unbreakable blocks.
World 3-B
Star Coin 1
Mini Mushroom required. Enter the red pipe at the start of the level. Okay, this one is tough. As you are running and hopping over the obstacles, you’ll eventually see a Star Coin high up in the air. You’ll need jump off the Paratroopa to get the extra boost to reach it. Remember that you can move left and right to adjust the speed you’re moving at in the air!
Star Coin 2
Mini Mushroom required. In the next room is a tiny green pipe leading up into the sky. You’ll need to jump off a Paratroopa again to reach it, but you’ll need to be quick to jump into the pipe too. Once in the sky, hop on top of one of the Bullet Bills to reach the Star Coin at the end. You don’t need to hold the run button to get the boost as you bounce!
Star Coin 3
Mini Mushroom required. Near the end, run and jump onto the set of bricks surrounding the Star Coin and wall jump to quickly grab it. Jump over to the right to avoid the screen squashing you within the blocks!
World 3-Castle
Star Coin 1
The first Star Coin will be seen on the left in open sight. Above the tiny platform beneath the Star Coin is a hidden block. Hit and create a block that will allow you to grab the Star Coin.
Star Coin 2
After the first giant sawblade, the second Star Coin can be seen on a platform near the water. Wait for the two spikes to pass and grab the Star Coin.
Star Coin 3
Don’t enter the door to the boss. Stand against the right wall and hit the hidden block above. Use it to jump over the wall and into a room filled with coins and the final Star Coin.
