My Wii U Experience

Just got back from the WiiU Experience with SS17 and my brother. We had an awesome time, I was the very first civilian in Colorado to demo New Super Mario Bros. U. ;D My brother and SS17 were the first civilians to play Rayman Legends, along with being the first to play at all (excluding the representatives). If you can't tell, we were the first people in line and surprisingly, only about 25% of the people there were kids. Here's a couple pics; one with our badges, minus my brother's, and one of the NSMBU demos:

I gotta say, the Gamepad is very comfortable and sleek; I didn't really get a chance to use the WiiU Classic Controller Pro. I demoed NSMBU, Nintendo Land's DK Crash Course, and Rayman Legends. NSMBU was beautiful with all the vibrant colors and pretty addicting to play. I loved the squirrel suit <3. I participated in the DK Crash Course competition which was very fun, but pretty challenging on my first (and only) go. The course is massive. With Rayman Legends, it was fast-paced and very fun to play. I played the speed-run level using the GamePad. My brother's not much into Nintendo, or gaming in general, but after playing Rayman, his opinion has swayed.

Is Solid Snake 17 coming on to post his insight on this, too?

It sounds like you had a fun time with the Wii U. You didn't try out Pikmin 3?
I'm not sure, but he's right next to me laughing at your question. XD

It was so crowded that I only got to demo those three games. I did see it there though, but I'm not interested in Pikmin, or at least yet.

So glad you had a great time! Now for some questions. :p

Which levels did you play in NSMBU?

How did you like DK's Crash Course? Did you have the chance to play any of the other Nintendo Land games? The Animal Crossing one is a blast!

For the Rayman demo, did you at any point have to turn the GamePad to turn a rotating sphere for Rayman to get through? :p

I played all the levels they had at demo; 1, 2, and 3. 1 was the one with the big squirrel tree, 2 was the one where you were in the clouds jumping on the mushroom platforms, and 3 was the one during the nighttime with the rotating stars and the munchers. I played as Mario using the GamePad, which was pretty cool since I could've used either screen to play off of, which I did. I played it for about 5-10 minutes before other people got in, so I played them each a couple of times. The squirrel suit was pretty nice; Even though you glide slowly, you can press ZR to get a little more air. I got to use the magenta Baby Yoshi to float through the air and collect a couple nice rows of coins. I kept on making the mistake of throwing the Baby Yoshi, though, but thankfully never died. XD

I loved DK's crash course. Although I only got to play for a few minutes during the competition they had kicked off, I had a blast. I love the size of the course; It's massive. It was pretty challenging, you're two wheels connected to each other with a string and you have to maneuver through a whole array of obstacles to get to the end, which might take some time on your first go, which I didn't get close to. XD I really wanted to try Luigi's Ghost Mansion, but there were tons of people waiting ahead. I probably wouldn't have been able to play since we were running out of time.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to demo that level, just the speed-run, though my brother and SS17 did. I was using the GamePad to clear some paths for Rayman. We did great as we never lost a life. I had to click on eyeballs and enemies. I probably should've used the stylus, but I didn't have the time. =P I was playing with a guy named AJ, who is really good at Rayman and he gave me advice in game development, which was very helpful. By the time that was finished, the tour was basically over and they were quizzing us. Sadly, I wasn't ever picked, though I had my hand raised for every question. They were giving away figurines, a Toad and Yoshi doll, and this awesome Mario cap.

What was the controller like? Did it fit well/sit well in your hands?

It was pretty smooth and sat well inside my hands. For Rayman, I had one hand holding it and the other using the touch screen to defeat enemies and help Rayman along; I had no difficulty holding with just one hand. It's surprisingly light for its size. It feels wide for a controller, but they did a good job making it comfortable. And the screen is beautiful and easy to use. For the buttons, they fit pretty well for me, even though most of the games that night used the screen and the shoulder buttons were smooth as well.

I was amazed that it was so nicely built; I wasn't really expecting it to fit well.

It might seem wide, but it kinda doesn't if you look at it or something. :p

Just tried it out at GameStop today. Like others, the only game available to demo was Rayman Legends, all else were movie trailers. The GamePad was smooth, and yet comfortable. Though I couldn't judge much since I didn't have the adequate time to experience it. But it was pretty good, I must say.

I went to Gamestop today too and tried out the Rayman Legends demo. It was surprisingly fun for me not being a big fan of the series. Like all others above the Gamepad was awesome.
