Nothing divisive with this Paper Mario entry, right? As a follow-up to the highly controversial Sticker Star, there was a lot resting on Color Splash to get the series back on track. In some ways it got things right, but not so much in others. There’s a new card battle system that uses the touch screen of the Wii U GamePad in what ultimately feels like a gimmick while retaining the lack of proper leveling up systems, a hard to ignore downside to the full Color Splash experience. On the other hand, the game looks gorgeous, the music is a bop from start to finish, and the dialogue is the funniest it’s ever been. It’s a fun ride, but the negatives are present throughout. Regardless, our guide (originally written right when the game released in 2016) will take you from the early start in Port Prisma to the final battle against Black Bowser.
