Nintendo can boost their graphical capabilities to match with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but they won't. If they do, they would probably lose money because it's expensive. They want to keep costs down before trying to push it.
I get what Reggie is implying about NX, but I still don't think it will replace the Wii U. It seems to be a "third pillar" console along with the 3DS and the Wii U. Of course, we don't know for sure until 2016, when Nintendo reveals more information about the NX.
