While Mario Kart 8 saw its last round of DLC and updates early last year, a recent tweet by Nintendo of Europe may be hinting that more is on the way to Mario Kart 8.

The above tweet reads “Good things come to those who wait. #MK8,” showing Toad and Wario getting thrown into the air by the train in Kalimari Desert. Yes, this image is from Mario Kart 64. Yes, the caption refers to one of our favorite Mario Kart 64 memories of getting slammed by the train if you don’t hit the brakes. So how does this relate to Mario Kart 8?
Isn’t it obvious? The Mario Kart 8 hashtag has no place here. Why not just use a simple Mario Kart hashtag? Or why include a hashtag at all? Since the last update was released back in May of 2015, Nintendo has been radio silent on any future plans for Mario Kart 8. Was extra content created over the last year?
With E3 just mere days away, one has to wonder how timely this tweet is. Nintendo doesn’t shy away from abrupt announcements and releases as evident by the sudden announcement of EarthBound Beginnings at last year’s Nintendo World Championships, as well as the release of Ryu and Roy just days before the Nintendo Digital Event.
E3 2016 runs from June 14-16. Do you think it’s possible we might get some Mario Kart 8 DLC? If so, what tracks and characters would you like to see? Sound off in the comments below!
