After months of speculation, Nintendo has today revealed the launch date for the new 3DS handheld at a press conference in Tokyo.

And that date, at least for the Japanese market, is February 26, 2011. The 3DS will retail there for ¥25,000 (USD$300). Two colours will be available at launch: "Aqua Blue" and "Cosmos Black"

Release dates for the European and North American markets were not quite as specific, Nintendo saying that the handheld would be out in the West in March 2011. No pricing details for these regions were not disclosed.

So for Japan, it will be released on Saturday, February 26, 2011. Yet North America still slated for March 2011. Hmm, not too shabby, would look forward to trying it out during Spring Break.

It seems that the Nintendo 3DS will have a Game Boy/Game Boy Advance Virtual Console...looking forward to it.

The 3DS is going to answer DSiWare fans' prayers (except for the one about not having to pay 300 bucks for a new system). A hardware fact sheet (PDF) notes that it is possible to move downloaded software from one 3DS to a newly-purchased 3DS (at least, if our translation is accurate). In addition, it is possible to move downloaded DSiWare from a DSi or DSi XL.

Some (unspecified) software can't be moved, and Nintendo warns that there are limits on the number of times a transfer can be undertaken, but this is leaps and bounds ahead of the DSi's current limits, which are set at zero games and zero times.

Nintendo has learned.

Imma wait a bit before buying it until the price drops to like $200 that's too much money and I'm definitely not hyped for it at all that I plan on spending days and days playing it. But I'm gonna get it since this is pretty much a new system.

Whoops, it may seem that there may not be any GBA VC for the 3DS. Disappointing, but we'll see what happens in the future.

And $300 bucks does seem pricey...but it shouldn't be if you start saving up now.

If what they did for the DSi, where you traded a system in for credit towards the next, I'd totally do this.

I really hope that Mario Kart, Paper Mario and Revelations are launch titles, but capcom did say that it might not reach launch, and Nintendo hasn't told us much about MK3DS nor Paper Mario.

After 16 years, Nintendo is going back to the Consumer Electronics Show. They might reveal something about the 3DS. Hopefully, we can get more information as to when it's comes out exactly and if they've added any new software/hardware to the device.
