It looks real and fake to me. It seems and sounds fake because nothing official about it has happened, it seems real because the appearance & it's from kotaku. I hope it is real...and I hope it does come out soon.madstarr said:

I'm actually hoping that it's fake, because if you look at the pictures with the screen split for DS games, it will be unconfortably heavy and just plain unconfortable
Paper Mario (designed for 3DS of course) would be an ideal launch title for the console.

But then, there's a flaw with my thinking, if the system is to have an 854x480 resolution, that's 16:9 widescreen, and most gamecube games run in 640x480, 4:3 FullScreen. Maybe they'll put in a zoom funtion it it.

Really hope it really is better than 3D. Maybe... VIRTUAL REALITY! A helmet to wear and connect to the 3DS. Jut a suggestion though.
Regarding the GCN-esque backward compatibility, there's the issue of control reconfiguration, and also how to fit a GCN disk slot onto the system. I hope Nintendo doesn't overdo this and make a system full of promises and no solid functionality (due to technicalities that could leasd to faults etc.)
One thing I want to see on the 3DS is the removal of regional locking. It was a stupid idea for Nintendo to lock regions on the DSi, since in any case, buying a different region DS game still means buying a DS game.

Do you think this'll be the last DS version? I think they are making people waste money when they keep on making new ones.
It's a DS successor, not a DS. Just like from GBA to DS, this is from DS to 3DS(tentative name). It won't be a DS. Why don't people get that? It's a new handheld. Going from 133mhz power to roughly 500mhz power wouldn't make it another of the same. It will have backwards compatibility for playing DS games, but it's not a DS because of the 4-5 times stronger machine, higher resolution, and 3D effects. It might have 2 screens that are extremely close together, but it won't make it a DS. Unless Nintendo calls it something along the lines of having the "DS" in the name, it's not another DS.

Lets not jump to conclusions and say these are the graphics they are talking about, afterall they said processing capabilities. It does sound very impressive and I'm very excited to see this new handheld at E3.

Though, I wouldn't be surprised to see good graphics along with PS3 or 360, because making autostereoscopic images does require from what I've heard, at least 2 Ghz of processing power.
I wonder how much the 3DS cost?

Ok, after some more research done, a processor needs to be 2.4 Ghz in processing power to display autostereoscopic images in 60fps. That's nearly 4 times as powerful than Wii. Now that's a true handheld.
