But in case you didn't know, "rubber" is another word for condom, so things can get a little confusing depending on who's saying it. But I assumed by "thong" you meant flip flops; I think I've heard someone call them that before.
As Snowy said, thongs is another name for sandals; My mom always used the term. Sneakers, tennis shoes, steel-toes, so many names for shoes. I prefer to call them, tennis shoes and sandals.

Sneakers, however I prefer shoes without laces (slip ons), it'd be odd if I went back to them =P
Usually sneakers. In any case, I usually resort to the Nike brand shoes these days though.
