What is left for Wii U?

Yeah, same. Especially since they are going with the money milking route and porting all important WiiU games to the NX lol

I'm actually pretty bummed Paper Mario is coming to Wii U and isn't a launch title for NX. Feel like that's a missed opportunity. They must have some strong stuff planned for NX, though, to pass that up.

Well if they are planning to make the major releases ported to the NX anyways, do you think that would be a title that could make it?

Might be! Might depend on reception, though. I'm kinda of the mindset that every high profile Wii U release should get re-released on NX (at least the ones that don't require the GamePad) since nobody got to play them the first time around. It might be old news for the Nintendo faithful, but it'll be new to a lot of other gamers.

Do you guys believe the theory that the WiiU didn't sell well because of its name? Apparently a lot of consumers that it was still the "Wii", just an upgraded version in a similar vein to the rumored "Wii HD".

I personally think it was a number of factors, specifically the fact that a lot of developers like Ubisoft and EA still didn't quite chew the bait Nintendo laid out for them. I think the original Wii turned off a lot of people.

Well, Paper Mario (the first game on the N64) came before GameCube (both came in same year), so it's not surprising.

All that's left are Star Fox Zero / Guard (this Friday), Mario & Sonic Rio 2016 Olympics and Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE for June 24, and then it's Paper Mario and then Zelda... that's pretty much it for the system.

The rumors of some Wii U games being ported to the NX (mainly Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Splatoon, Super Mario Maker, and Zelda Wii U) are all rumors. It can happen for those that missed out since Wii U didn't sell as much as Nintendo hoped, but wouldn't doing so make current Wii U owners that have the games feel betrayed?

There's just too many rumors and speculation that's crawling around the internet that we do not have any credible information.

The NX may be able to get some games the Wii U had easily, because didn't Iwata say that Nintendo intends to have the next console "absorb" the Wii U architecture?

Most people thought that too and also thought the GamePad was just an add-on to the original Wii.

So basically the majority of Nintendo's library. I can't think of any game where the design of the GamePad is critical besides Super Mario Maker and ZombiU. The only worthwhile gimmick that the GamePad has really is Off-TV play.
Nintendo Land. Game & Wario. There's more.

But not enough to make the controller the centerpoint of the console.

Yeah, although Nintendo had some pretty cool ideas for the Wii and WiiU controllers I sincerely think the Wiimote and Gamepad were better suited for accessory peripherals rather than it being the main controller that interacts with the system. I always go to my Pro Controller whenever I want to play Mario Kart 8 and the GCN controller for Smash Bros because those are more suited for competitive/focused gameplay, which I enjoy more than mere entertainment (plus, growing up with Sega and Playstation just makes me so used to the controllers that have an actual organized button setup). I see a similar trend with the NX controller being all touch screen, which again I think would be okay for an accessory but not the main peripheral.

Preaching to the choir, dude.

I disagree entirely about the Wii remote. Don't forgot that the Wii was incredibly successful. The Wii remote, which is even more less traditional than the Gamepad, didn't stop people from buying the Wii like hotcakes.

It was popular for adults who thought it was a workout machine for yoga moms, let's be honest here lol. The whole motion control gimmick was the reason why a lot of developers backed away from Nintendo and ultimately led to the WiiU's failure, because anything with "Wii" in the title is a potential setback for programming kits. If the Wii had a standard controller akin to PS3 and Xbox and didn't rely so much on motion controls for their mainstream market, the Wii probably could have been even more successful than it already was. Make the "Wii Sports/Fit/Party/Soccer Mom Edition" a secondary course to entice parents to have a healthy choice of gaming while also appealing to hardcore gamers by having standard controls that didn't interrupt gameplay. Nintendo didn't do this. They saturated the motion control gimmick so much that people got sick of it. Sure, the Wii was successful in terms of overall sales but over its lifespan its critical reception got worse and worse. WiiU is left picking up its older sibling's pieces, and like I said earlier huge developers like Ubisoft and EA are being very cautious in doing business with Nintendo because of it.

It is the Wii's legacy and the WiiU's early launch cycle that ironically produced the short lifespan of the WiiU. The GamePad and Nintendo Network are very interesting additions and I hope at least with NN the NX plans to expand on that. But this system was just a disappointment.

Developers backed away? Wii has had way more 3rd party support than the Wii U. Sure, not all games were always ported due to hardware limitations, but for example, many of the Call of Duty games were ported over to the Wii despite that.
