I'm very sorry for derailing this thread but I need to say this.

From what I've played thus far, this game is probably one of my least favorite Zelda games I've played. It is in no way bad, but I feel that it could be a lot better:

The graphics are blurry and less than impressive
The story progression is way too long, it took me about 6 hours to get past the intro
I strongly dislike the story line, Zelda and Link aren't even the Zelda and Link we know and love
Music is sometimes annoying and repetitive
The fairysword thing is so annoyingly mellow
The motion controls are so bad and unresponsive and vapid
No Ganondorf? Yeah, just go ahead and give me a Zelda game without Zelda then, and also, that fat guy that apparently has the hots for Zelda < ganondorf (btw sorry if this is false, I haven't gotten far in the game and this is merely an assumption)
I'm sorry, but I like OOT much much more :(
1. The game is blurry because it has dumb impressionist art, should not have expected something different. I'm pretty sure lots of people would rather have bad graphics then a Wii burnout.
2. It's called a long game. From the sound of your post, sounds like you're not so good.
3. It's new Nintendo.
4. The music mostly has the themes and variations from the previous releases, I guess the mixed taste just isn't your style.
5. I have no complaints to the motion controls. From all the games I've played that require lots of motion, it isn't so bad.
6. Is this your first game without Ganondorf?
7. Well, duh. OOT is far better. It's also funny to expect another Zelda game just as great.

1. That's a fault of the Wii and not the game. The Wii can't render in HD.
2. Compared to the other LoZ games, they stuff you into the first world and dungeon rather quick. You shouldn't expect the first 2 hours to be anything too epic anyways.
3. I disagree, not every Zelda game has to be the same. And every Link is very different. Compare WW Link to OoT Link.
4. I strongly disagree with this. I think the orchestrated music is excellent and on the level of SMG's music.
5. Just nitpicking here. Not a huge issue.
6. A lot of people liked the motion controls and if any game does it right, it's this game. I think it enhances the gameplay, you can't just tap or waggle your way out of a battle anymore like in past Zelda games. If you don't like motion controls then that sucks but most people liked them.
7. This isn't the first Zelda game without Ganondorf. And again, nitpicking.
8. Ok.

Might just be your nostalgia getting in the way of enjoying this game.

You know, making games aren't easy...

Uh Wiiboy you have a serious case of nostalgia freeze here. Just saying. How far are you, I'd like to know? If you aren't that far in then you need to play the game more to make a judgement.

Of course OOT is a classic, but if you can only base your judgements through direct comparison then idk what to say...

And then I read Uriel's post and find that he's said everything I wanted to. :p

A few of the Zelda games without Ganon:
PHANTOM HOURGLASS
SPIRIT TRACKS
MAJORAS MASK
MINISH CAP

Link's Awakening didn't have Ganon OR Zelda
I didn't like PO or ST or MM. However, I never plaid MC.

It's not 'cause of nostalgia. BTW, I've noticed that probably half the people on here are like that anyway?

I just really love the game, and I have since I played it several years ago. By the way, those judgements were just first impressions I had thus far. I have no idea how far I am; I haven't played it in a while. I'm not basing them through correct judgement, and if it seemed that way then I apologize.

1. It is before Ocarina of Time
2. It is suppose to have a heavy story b/c it is before OoT and suppose to supply the information for one to conclude analytically that this is before OoT
3. Graphics are at times blurry, it's a Wii for God's sake XD
4. Music ehhh, I found the music interesting and it set a mood in the corresponding place (The Sky music was indeed annoying tho)
5. The motion controls was at times were unresponsive and it got on my nerves. And the game was DEPENDING on it to XD
6. THIS is before Ganon, as we know, IDK the boss name b/c I forgot, prolly summon that evil beast to haunt Link's entire life
1-2. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
3. I've seen plenty of Wii games that had amazing graphics.
4-5. LOL

why is this series' timeline so weird anyway? xD

1. That's a fault of the Wii and not the game. The Wii can't render in HD.
2. Compared to the other LoZ games, they stuff you into the first world and dungeon rather quick. You shouldn't expect the first 2 hours to be anything too epic anyways.

8. Ok.
1. Again, I don't have a problem at all if it's non-HD, but they're just so....blurry an underperformed.
2. Howcome, if I may ask?
3. I never played WW for more than 5 minutes, and also, MM and OOT have almost the exact same Link, right? I consider that WW totally different game anyways.  ???
5. I suppose.
6. This game has the most irritating motion controls of any Wii game I've played, presumably. I'll give it benefit of the doubt and just say that my wiimotes are faulty.
7. It's the first one that I've played that didn't have him. Well technically it was MM but at least it had Zelda.

BTW people, I'm sorry if it seems like my attitude towards it is too negative, or that I hate the game, I really don't, despite some of my issues with it, it's still good!

Where do I even jump into this? :p

All I will say is that I'm very glad Ganondorf was left out. Did I really need to see Ganondorf try to take over yet again? It was very refreshing to have a radically different villain like Ghirahim take the stage and by the end of the game
we learn that Demise will be reincarnated as Ganondorf in future Zelda games.

Just a tip for controls, try to forget that you are using a controller and really try and think that you are holding a sword. You would never make tiny little swipes in real life and you shouldn't do that in this game either, assuming you want the controls to work.

As for the graphical style, we already got Twilight Princess, and that game is not aging very nicely. They knew the Wii's limitations and they put out something that is not only gorgeous and works perfectly for the style of the game, but also gives the series a fresh and new graphical look.

But I'm glad you are still enjoying the game. It really is great. :)

Technically Zelda II has Ganon's revival when you die (i.e. often)

I think Chuggaconroy summarised the artstyle really well - for a game focusing on surviving against generally stronger enemies with precision you need stylised motion but realistic proportions.

tbh I have no qualms about the art style. It's pretty immersive. :p

And beaten the game in Hero Mode, too. Was tough, especially in boss battles.

Anyway, here's another Nintendo Easter Egg:

The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword Cake Animated
YouTube Description said:
I got my daughter started on her first Zelda game, The Skyward Sword for the Wii. She of course claims it to be the best Zelda ever made....

We had a really hard time coming up with the cake this time. There is so much in the game, it's actually quite hard to decide what goes into the cake. Needless to say I had to cut 90% of the stuff I wanted on there. The original plan included a portion of every map and 4 times more characters :/. I was also not allowed to tape a light blue tablecloth to the wall behind the cake for a more immersive sky effect :(.

The video starts out at Skyloft (the main town of the game) with the shop keeper pedaling around and around waiting for the bell to ring and two other riders flying under the city then it expands outward to Link flying, Scrapper hoisting the pinwheel away from its landing place and Ghirahim hovering up and down over the tornado. Technically Ghirahim never hovers over a tornado but since it was he that produced the wind storm that pulled Zelda below the clouds, I decided to take some creative license there (otherwise I didn't know where to put him). It then pans down to The Sealed Grounds just outside of the Faron Woods. This is another area you spend a fair amount of time in during the game. I was able to put two other baddies in this area, the Deku-Baba and the Octorok. Groose is working on his railway that wraps around the grounds later in the game and his catapult cart is half finished on the ground. Zelda is playing her harp and (young) Impa is standing in front of the temple while the Gate of Time ticks away inside.

Some obvious omissions that were meant to be added were drool on the Deku-Baba and the propeller on Scrapper. I really have no idea how I ran out of time for those two details but I did. I know Impa should be old but I like the younger version more. We were hoping to add more details around the temple using frosting and/or fondant but that mostly went unfinished too. HOWEVER, it turned out super cute and really just what I was going for.

The Temple entrance is 6 batches of Rice Krispies and the backside of the temple is 9 cakes stacked as high as we could make it. The small tower on either side are styrofoam wrapped with fondant. My wife made and painted all of the characters out of clay except for Link (I was able to use my Figma Link). My wife sewed 25 green Link hats as party favors. The girls seemed to like them, we did get our daughter a blue hat for the party from Etsy as we liked the design even though it is more of a LOZTP style.

....Speaking of......My daughter has since started The Twilight Princess and has exclaimed that it is better than the Skyward Sword (she loves animals so riding a horse and turning into a wolf is apparently awesome).
EDIT: Another Easter Egg:
