Tall, Tall Mountain

Tall, Tall Mountain is the twelfth course of Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS. It features a high mountain with all kinds of obstacles on the way to the top. The hat stealing monkey Ukiki is featured here as well as the blowing cloud named Fwoosh. The dangerous aspect of the level is that almost the entire path around the mountain is thin and near a cliff face.

Stars:
    Star 1: Scale the Mountain
Star 2: Mystery of the Monkey Cage
Star 3: Scary 'Shrooms, Red Coins
    Star 4: Mysterious Mountainside
Star 5: Breathtaking View from Bridge
Star 6: Blast to the Lonely Mushroom
Star 7 (DS): 5 Secrets of the Mountain
Star 8: Collect 100 Coins (not shown in star selection screen, Star 7 in N64 version)

Super Mario 64 - Mysterious Mountainside

Like its painting, also located on the second story of the castle, Tall, Tall Mountain is surrounded by giant mushrooms, one of which has a Power Star. The top of the mountain has a flat surface and railing, and is next to a waterfall that leads to the start of the level. To access this, defeat Bowser at Bowser in the Fire Sea and win the key to the upper levels of Peach's Castle.

Anyway, this world is tricky to scale. A few wrong steps could cost you. Getting up there with the red coins shaves off some time, though.

That Ukiki is annoying, don't bother with it unless you're in Star 2 and at the top of the mountain.

The slide is harder than the previous slides. There's a dead end with a skull that will make you lose a life. Be sure to watch where you're going in there.

ARRRRGH Blast To The Lonely Mushroom. I dread that mission so much. :p

I really enjoyed this level. Good platforming aspects and an awesome Slide mission to boot.

Even if you try to not use the cannon, on like I did before today, you would simply fail! :p

You can actually do a long jump (Run + Z) if you're at a hedge high enough (done it before), but you're better off using the cannon.

That's what I'm trying to do! I did this before with the DS version.

Pah, it's easy in DS version since you have the map. Otherwise for the Nintendo 64 version, you have to be careful. I never attempted this, always go for the safe way. Don't try doing the impossible. :p

Mario's moves is simply lame when doing the impossible way. But with Luigi or Yoshi in the DS version, it would be great to get it.

Would Yoshi still be able to? I'm not sure.

But definitely Luigi, since he has that spinning move.

I did this with Yoshi before. I'm surely that it will work! ;)

Then what technique did you use with Yoshi to get the star?

I did a flutter kick when I was on top of the mountain and reached the mushroom.
