Swearing

Yeah, because swearing leads to nowhere, except flaming and insults. I can understand what Joey really wants, though some are against it. The forum can go nicely with many discussions if there is no swearing. Forums sometimes tend to fail when something not right happens. Different people go different directions and have different opinions, of course, but for a forum like this, hosted by Joey Anderson, will do him no good if there are things against his religious beliefs. We can't fight, we need to respect other religions and beliefs. Some like his policy, some don't. Why is it hard to just leave the site/forum if you don't like the new policy? It's simple to leave, really, just don't come on. There's absolutely no point in staying to rough up Joey's beliefs if you don't like it. Just leave, why is it so hard?

There we go with the religious beliefs again. DAMNDANG YOU JESUS!

Just because you're the host doesn't mean you get to ruin other people's forum experience. Hell, if I had the money, I would outright buy this site just so this stupid-ass Policy doesn't go into place.

And it's good to know that the Admins and Hosts opinions are better than the members. It really shows how much of a dicktatership this really is.

I have nothing against this swearing rule, since I never swear. But then what happens if ALOT of people on this forum leave because of the rule? Then this forum can become dead (As I heard it did before...) I'm not disrespecting Joey or anything, just saying... (Also, I am a Christian myself)

Throwing religion into this debate is a high stakes card, but the rest is legit as I can understand. No-one wants to contradict themselves by hosting something that runs against their moral standing.

Since Joey himself has spoken, I can now assert my support of this 'policy'.

Re VIP's last comment: flaming and insults, I doubt, but arguments do arise from intermember conflict regarding language and whatnot. And regarding forum failure - we have plenty of experience on that already. One thing also: the balance between site 'commitment' and self entitlement to freely express: I think that's what some members are putting up on the scales atm.

Re Cook's loophole: I can see your point, and I think I'll discuss with Rump Command the other Admins and Joey on the implications of saying something like "shat" in its own context (as opposed to, well, you know well enough).

Re Charizard's retort at the loophole: two choices: 1) ignore it (that includes not commenting on it), or 2) leave if you find that the site doesn't meet your moral standing. I know that sounds off-beat, but tolerance is a vital skill to have.

Re Aegis: that was sly indeed. Loophole query? And what do you mean by "better opinion" exactly? (Irony/Sarcasm?)

I've only ever posted here like twice, but what the hell.

Like everything that happened on SMF, I don't think anyone thinks Joey is outside of his rights to do this. But at the same time, when does it stop? When will he just let the sites he hosts run themselves and stop dictating what they can and can't do? It's nice of him to host you guys and the other sites he hosts, but that shouldn't mean he should tell you what you can and can't do, aside from barring you from talking about illegal things (which could get him in trouble). And I don't get why religion even comes into play. I don't think god ever said you can't say fuck or bitch. Plus, even though I don't think I personally believe in god anymore (at least not the ideal god presented in the bible) I know I'd feel uncomfortable pushing my beliefs onto others who do not share them.

Joey's a great guy, but I don't think webmastering is for him anymore. When you get to the point where there are so many things you're against that the average person is not, you probably shouldn't be running websites. Or at least not websites that don't have a religious slant.

Hey look, it's the OMB on SMf all over again.

Now, wait 2~3 weeks and the site will be dead.

Don't worry, Joey will soon implement a "no posting" rule.

Can't have any chit-chat that isn't host approved! ;)
well this site has younger people so they'll abide to it and not leave.
Well, this is true.

OH. OH.

I KNOW.

Install a mod to make word filters optional.

I like how Ama's post was completely ignored by Waluigi! and other younger members.

THANK YOU!! I understand Joey that you don't like swearing and such but that is YOUR belief not ours. Saying a swear word every now and then shouldn't be a big deal. It's not like we post like 5 billion swear words a post. Please do not force this upon us.

SZ you really need to think of an alternative or this site is gonna be dead. The only members that will remain will be these idiot kids that love these dumbass rules.

Why are all of you complaining? Can't you guys just follow a rule? You have to follow rules in society if you don't you have to face the consequences. You are given rules at school and in many places. You should just follow the rules and don't even complain about them. Just rebelling against the rules will only ban you. Besides there is no need for swearing, it is just unnecessary. If you would talk like that in public you will get in trouble so you shouldn't even swear in the first place. People don't sound very sophisticated when they swear so don't swear because some people don't like people that swear. You need to become mature and learn life isn't about swearing. Swearing also gives you a bad reputation and people might see you as an immature person so they would want to stay away from you and not hear it from you. I don't swear myself. I have respect for others so I wouldn't even try to think of swearing or even think or say a word referring to a swear. Please stop the arguments and just live by the rules.

It's not the rule that's the problem, it's the way the forum is being run.

That was a load of crap with "swearing" put in there. For one swearing is not that bad. Someone who says a "damn" or a "hell" every now and then is not going to make you a bad  person. Yes I admit over swearing makes you look like an idiot. It's also not the swearing itself its the fact the this place used to be fun and exciting and not a child's website when you get banned for making a silly joke. People need to realize this is the internet and that you can't please everyone.. People need to get over it and just let things slide instead of going religious maniac dictator on us.

Like I said before, Joey is hosting us for free, so a a small policy like this does not bother me at all and it shouldn't bother anyone else. Especially when the rule was made and directed to a website that did have a ton of swearing, not us. That website was mature. They thanked Joey for all the hosting he has done and they left to find another one. Had this policy been something big or huge that really affected us, then we have a reason to complain. Then I could want to leave Joey's hosting. I don't even see anyone swear here on the forum in the first place, except for this very topic. So unless Joey puts out some crazy rule that really changes the way we do things on the Forum, there shouldn't be 6 pages of complaining.

And this whole religion thing. Just because he said he said all those things, it doesn't mean he is taking his religion over us. There are plenty on non-religious who do not like swearing. And if a decision or action is made through a religious standpoint, its not because he is trying to force his religion upon you. There are people who have morals and standards and why would you host something that you are against. We are not the ones paying for this.

Also, words like "shat" and "dang" are not bad. Even the occasional "damn" or a "hell" is not that bad. Its the bigger words that this policy is towards and we don't even use those here.

And let me repeat this one more time :

The No Swearing Policy was directed and meant for another website. We were not the Problem. The policy shouldn't even affect us that much.

You obviously weren't there for SMF's OMB Incident. Joey banned all conversations of masturbation, "adult jokes", and other things that go by his beliefs. I wouldn't say that.
