Should there be a sequel to Super Mario 64?

Wait, there was a sequel, its Super Mario 64 DS.

It's more of a remake though. I'd like to see another one like the cancelled Super Mario 64 2. The playable characters, Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and Wario from Super Mario 64 DS should return if there's one. Add the scrapped multiplayer from Super Mario 64 as well. The Players running around the main HUD simultaneously would be awesome to see.

Wow..¿why t did Nintendo cancelled the game?
The N64DD proved to be a failure, so every game being created for it was scrapped.
...just like what BT just said. :p
Not all games were scrapped, some of them were released (only in Japan);

And second, Super Mario 64 DS is the true sequel of this game that was released on the Nintendo DS in 2004.

Lets just say that technically, it's already been released, 3 times.

Firstly, Super Mario 128/Pikmin: To show off the GameCube's power, they made a tech demo called Super Mario 128. It featured 128 Marios picking up blocks a throwing them around. This went on to become Pikmin.

Secondly, Super Mario Sunshine: It is close to Super Mario 64's gameplay with going through walls and that collecting stars, blue coins and red coins.

Lastly, Super Mario Galaxy: Very very close to being a successor to Super Mario 64 with almost identical gameplay and most of the original ideas are there.
