Who is this "we" lol? At any rate, I still say it's an entirely new project or a remake of something else unless Nintendo wants Japan to have a Super Mario Bros. 5 lol.

New Super Mario Bros. is entirely seperate franchise from standard SMB. NSMB has all the moves from 64 and Galaxy while the original SMB series (including Super Mario World) just has the basic moves. I doubt they will ever do an installment in the original series again though because it would take away a shitload of moves.
UPDATE: As it was shown in Japan's Nintendo Direct today, the game is now known as New Super Mario Bros. 2
So hopefully they'll make good levels, and make everyone happy.

It looks cool. Might end up picking the game up Day 1. Adding the 2 at the end isn't the most original thing, but neither was adding a 2 at the end for Super Mario Galaxy 2 and I thought that game was amazing.

As soon as I heard this game was coming, I became so excited. Can't wait for this game.
I wonder if you'll be able to play as the Toads again. If it's a sequel to New Super Mario Bros. DS, then no.
