Neverball is a game that you can download for free off the Internet. I haven’t played this game in a while, so let’s give this one a chance.
Presentation (7.5/10): The main menu looks promising enough, and the music in the main menu is pretty cool. When you press Play, you have six difficulties to choose from: Easy, Medium, Hard, Tour de Force, Retour de Force, and, on the next page, Nevermania. The music sounds like nighttime driving music throughout the whole game, and the music changes every four levels.
Story (N/A): There’s no actual story.
Gameplay (7.5/10): You’re a checkered ball going around a floating platform collecting yellow, red, and blue coins that are worth one, five, and ten coins respectively. You have to collect the minimum amount of coins (e.g. you need ten coins), then go to the target (it’ll be represented by a yellow beacon with stars circling around it). The levels get harder as time goes on, such as there are no guardrails in one level, moving platforms the next, et cetera. Not only that, but there’s a time limit. The controls are fine with the arrow keys, but when you use the mouse, the ball is more difficult to steer. The main problem is that the ball is sometimes difficult to control. If you go too fast, you end up going off the platform, and sometimes, if you go steadily, you end up missing the platform.
Graphics (7.5/10): The graphics are good for a downloadable game, but there are some minor things that just annoy me. The coins remind you of the coins you collect in the Mario games, and one enemy, the sliding block with an angry face, makes you realize that the game is inspired or ripped off from the Mario games. The camera tilts with the direction of where you’re going, which is annoying, and it makes the game more confusing.
Lasting Appeal (6.5/10): Sometimes, people play the same levels again to beat their scores or just for enjoyment, but some people won’t feel like playing the harder levels again.
Overall: 72.5%
Neverball, overall, is a decent game that you can play when you’re bored or just out of enjoyment.
Here’s the link to download the game if you don’t have it and you’re willing to play it:
