what criterias are there for getting a 3* rank on a grand prix?

2. Not get hit by items often.
3. Not falling off courses or needing Lakitu to recover you.
4. Staying ahead of the pack for most if not all of the races.

dang, i'll never get past that number 2 ._. they use way 2 many blue shells >.<

I know how to do all of them...
1. Be in first place for a good period of time
2. If you get hit by a blue shell lots and still win, thats good
3. Don't fall off (once or twice mayb be acceptable)
4. Do lots of tricks and wheelies
5. Lead most of the laps
6. Use lots of techniques like the avoiding POW block trick etc.
7. Try not to use Bullet Bills to catch up
If you do most or all of those things, you should be able to get that three-star rank. And also, you have to get between 57-60 points for 3 stars, 55-60 points for 2 stars and 53-60 points for 1 star.

actuall, i stayed in 1st all laps, an no1 ever caught up with me, i landed 1st very early >.<

1. Try not to hit walls
2. Don't touch enemies and other things that can hurt you
3. Keep on track, don't get off-road
4. NEVER EVER FALL if you're going for the 3 stars rating
5. Do a lot of special moves drift boosts, wheelies, etc.
6. Be in first place for a good period of time (originally Yoshi1's tip)
7. Be quick, I think you'll get better rating if you finish faster
8. Get a perfect 60 points in the end, 57 is still acceptable I think...

hmm seems even more strict, i'll try again tho
I got 3 stars in Lightning Cup 150cc and that was it. But I was just trying to get 1 star and I'd usually get 1 or 2 so when I got the 3 star I was shocked and my self-esteem went up a notch. I have 1 star on everything though. 8)
I have 1 star on everything though. 8)O.O, the only 3* i can do is mushroom 50cc =.= rest is 2* tho and all 1* at 100cc
