Mario Party 7

Just another Mario Party that I wanna talk about. I don't have it, but my friend does and we have a blast! (and he rage quits lol)
I really enjoyed MP7 because of the old-formula, boards, minigames, and characters. I enjoyed most of the boards, especially Neon Heights! ;) Others I enjoyed were Grand Canal and Pagoda Peak.
The characters were actually very unique, with Toadette, Dry Bones, and Birdo, this was indeed one of the best rosters. I usually used Yoshi, my friend uses Mario, and we choose Wario and Toadette as CPUs because of their poses... XD
The minigames were also nice; the modes like Pearl Hunt were splendid. Indeed the best Mario Party in terms of the old formula! (which means it's the best for the Gamecube!) :D I also liked the balance of minigames---having one at the end of each round, not knowing what type of minigame it was! I also liked how the effect of your roll will affect the type of minigame, from a free-for-all to a 1 vs 3, I was enjoying every second of it! :D
I also enjoyed the orbs. They added a spicy twist into the game, making it unique and fun to team up on one person.
If there is a MP11, it needs to be just like MP7---with orbs, a better roster, and better minigames! ;)

So what do you guys think? Do you enjoy Mario Party 7?

Mario Party 7 is great, but I feel like it took a lot of what was great about Mario Party 6 and changed it in a negative way. The way they changed duel minigames where the outcome was random (or something NOTHING) was a very bad move, and the switching the Day/Night system for Bowser Time was not fun at all. Great boards, great minigames, but a lot of it was tied down by some dumb gameplay decisions. :-\

*shrug* looking back, Bowser time was never really that annoying when I played it years ago, but now, I find that Bowser is being more... mean with it. Steals 20 coins from everyone, and all that board specific stuff where he puts a ztar in a chest in Neon Heights and takes an "workout" on Pagoda Peak. I can live with it, but it'd be nice to have an option to turn it off in game and not have to use cheat codes to disable it, if necessary.

Honestly, I'll say after playing Mario Party 7 with others, the game is a lot more unfair than I thought. When you're in last place (3rd or 4th), the game gives you horrible Orbs, while giving the players in 1st/2nd all the best Orbs possible. At the Item Shop and the Orb Space. Its definitely biased, and it's honestly turned me off from playing.

Heck, if I am being honest, Mario Party 6 kind of is like that too (biased towards 1st/2nd), at least there's Miracle Space to turn things around I guess.

This is my second favorite MP behind 4 because I love the introduction of 8 player mini-games which was my favorite feature of the game and I hope it returns in MP11 if there is one. Most of the boards are nice to me with neon heights being my favorite board, I always like the futuristic atmosphere of the board that takes place in a city like environment. I also like how everyone has a partner and a special orb to compensate each other though I feel like some special orb's are very underpower. The mini-games was average but it could been alot better and like what others said, bowser time can be a nuisance and make the game very unbearable at times...

I personally disagree with 6's Orb distribution, I found in most cases that the Orbs (such as Flutter, Boo-Away and Snack) were rightfully given and I thought the discount if you were in 3rd/4th was ok.

Back on topic though, I agree with what SZ says; Bowser Time is the BIGGEST turn off. And I really disagree with the changes made from 6; Duel should not be like Chance Time (or you get NOTHING for winning??) and I felt some of the changes to Orbs were unnecessary (i.e. Snack REQUIRES you to use it, Zap should've stayed at 5 coins lost per space, Toady should actually steal the Orb, etc.).

And I thought the Mini-Games were average at best, and I was really disappointed with how they went from 23 to 13 (regular) 4-Player mini-games. =P

Well, this is off-topic, but I want to respond/explain myself further.

when I was playing MP6 with Dark Boo, SuperZambezi, and Yoshiman, I was getting the worst Orb distribution when in 3rd/4th place. On one turn, I was in 4th place, I visited the Item Shop, what's available? Warp Pipe, Spiny, and Podoboo. No Super Shrooms at all, and only twice did I get to get a Sluggish Shroom when visiting the Item Shop. SZ would be in 1st place, and he would get a Super Shroom at the Orb Space.

This was on Snowflake Lake, and I didn't get ANY Snack Orbs the whole time I was in 3rd/4th, while Boo would get Snack Orbs in 2nd place at Item Shop. I don't think it's fair.

Welcome to Mario Party 7.

I just played MP7 today and I haven't since 4/06/2013! (It keeps track!) I loved Pagoda Peak, the music was catchy and the music in the game is so nostalgic! I also noticed Waluigi's winning poses being weird, like WTF is he doing? He's either rubbing his tummy and giving a thumbs up or jacking off, because I have a dirty mind. BTW I always play as Waluigi! It's funny when he says "You're lousy!"

Bowser Time only really bugs me in the Grand Canal- 3 bridges of 3 consecutive Bowser Spaces?! They really tick me off in MP7. Since the Revolutions and Shuffles are now in the hands of Mini-Bowser, all that can occur on a regular Bowser space is a high-stakes mini-game. Both the single player and multiplayer varieties are annoying in their own ways. The single-player ones are too easy, thus a drag (in fact 'Tunnel Of Lava!' is basically an elongated way for Bowser to say 'Yeah... I'll let you go this time') while the multiplayer ones take far too long for casual gamers (a.k.a. my family) to not make one wee mistake. That wouldn't matter if it weren't for how much losers have to give up- so often ALL their coins get snatched.

Mario Parties are so miserable when players have no coins. Even if someone survives a Bowser Mini-Game they'll be bored for a while as their competitors can't buy stuff or be stolen from- it's so annoying when someone finally lands on one of your traps... but they're skint.

The number of times me and friends land on Bowser Spaces in Grand Canal is obscene- there's been quite a few turns with nothing but BS landings.

Anyways, maybe my favorite Mario Party in spite of that. The items are perhaps the most balanced in the entire series (price-wise) and there's very few nauseating mini-games aside from Bowser's. Although the random reward is annoying in Duel MGs, this is the first game in the series where there's NO luck-based duels- in previous entries I was always too scared to invest 50 bucks or a star knowing that 'Get a Rope' or 'Pitifall' might show up.

I want a Mario Party minigame that you need to get as many power ups as you can before the time runs up.
Poison Mushroom: -1 point.
Super Mushroom: 1 point.
Super Leaf: 3 points.
Invincibility Leaf: 5 points.

I love this game. It's definitely one of my favorite Mario Partys of the group. I don't know exactly how I'd rank them, but MP7 is safely in my top 3 no matter how you slice it.  ;D

The maps are pretty good - Pagoda Peak was always my favorite! And the music to Pagoda is spectacular as well. There is some variance from the traditional run around and collect stars mechanic I like most, but they don't go off the rails in this one and it at least keeps some influence from the traditional MP games.

The thing this Mario Party game does the best is the minigames! Track & Yield, Fun Run, Target Tag, Light Speed, Camp Ukiki, Bob-ombic Plague, Shock Absorbers - just to name a few. Heck, even the Bowser Minigames are enjoyable in this one.

This brings me to my next point - 8 players. Mario Party has thrown at us some weird things over the years that really takes a step away from traditional MP gameplay, but the idea of adding more players has to be one of the best ones I've seen so far. Granted, I think it would have been a bit more fun with each having their own controller, but with the 4 player restriction on the Gamecube I'm not complaining about this addition. Of course, they just let you play the classic way as well if you'd like, which is awesome. *cough* Mario Party 10 *cough*

I've certainly had some great times with this game. It does have some stiff competition, particularly with the other GC era Mario Party games, but this is one of my favorites to date. I still remember bringing this in our TV-equipped minivan to play on our family road trips ten years ago - times I'll never forget!

Hopefully when I return home next week from college I'll be able to play it some more.

Great story  ;D

I too share some fond memories with Mario Party 7, as it is the only one I grew up with on the Gamecube. My friends and I have certainly pushed the meta for the minigames, always trying to optimize the games like Fun Run, Snow Ride, Kart Wheeled, Hop-O-Matic 4000, Sphere Factor, Buzz Stormer (always shouting LEFT and RIGHT!), Easy Pickings (i still believe it's possible to clear the whole field with 3 people :-D) and, of course, Pokey Pummel.
