Yeah, we need items that don't overdo it.
Item that spins you out for 3 seconds - fine
Item that shrinks you, tosses you in the air 20 feet, makes your controls backwards - not fine

I think items make it fun. Run over people with the star ;D Hiting people with shells. Boosting with mushroom, etc.
Brawl and Mario Kart without items is gai (Lookout, it's Wanda Sykes!)

Regular items don't annoy me. It's the stupid ones like THUNDERCLOUD that make my blood boil
There's not a thing in the game more annoying than the Thundercloud. I also think they should make the Blue Shell roll on the ground and hit any other racers on the way. Not only will it actually be beneficial to the user, but it won't penalize the first place racer as much
