Hubs/Overworld

As said before, it depends on the game. Sometimes in games it feels a bit annoying trying t get from point A to point B having to travel through a huge boring hub world when you just want to start the level but can't due to having a long overworld to travel through. But in case of Mario games I tend to find those hubs enjoyable.

Just played some Super Mario Galaxy for the competition we are having, and I have to say that I really miss the open hubs. Don't get me wrong, I loved Starship Mario and how streamlined getting to a level was, but I really do miss that exploration and finding a new or secret world around the corner. One of the reasons why I love the Banjo Kazooie series so much.

I enjoyed the ones in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine a lot. Delfino Plaza was very fun to explore and run around endlessly while riding Yoshi. i kind wished Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon had a hub to run around, or just have the Bunker be the hub, just a rather small one. its an awesome game regardless.

I LOVE a good hub! But modern gamers are iffy on them. :(

The Banjo-Kazooie games have been mentioned, and for good reason; You know a hub is a good one when you enjoy just aimlessly exploring it.

Zelda Majora's Mask is also well loved because of how awesome Clock Town is, it practically is the game.

I also have fond memories of exploring the Edo countryside in Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon, it really added to the charm of that game.

Really, the N64 had a lot of great Hub worlds. :p
