Harder Difficulty and Retrying

Do you mind playing on harder difficulties and running into situations where you have to repeat a level or a section multiple times, or do you prefer to blow through everything in an easier mode.

Depends on the game, but I usually stick to hard. I'm playing The Last of Us on hard, and I have to say that playing this way forces me to think carefully and strategize. It's a lot more rewarding as well. Did the same for Bioshock Infinite and felt the same way. Now Fallout 3, that I played on just hard and not the two higher settings. That game can be harsh.

I usually go through on normal or hard depending on the type of game it is. For Halo games I really only do one playthrough, and it's on Legendary. But for games like DMC, I like to do it on normal so I get the mechanics down.

Though I went through inFAMOUS on hard the first time by accident and it was incredibly rewarding.

I like going on the hardest difficulty mode for almost all games I play.
The only exception to this are those games in which the harder mode is unlockable (where I'll play it once I unlock it if I don't lose my data by it), or in games where I really just want to listen to the story and other features of the game, but then I usually put the difficulties at a higher level for these anyways. :p
