Favorite Mario Kart?

Well, if I were to pick 3, they would be Wii, 7, and 8.
Favorite: Mario Kart 8
2nd Favorite: Mario Kart Wii
3rd Favorite: Mario Kart 7
Mario Kart Wii has great controls, and I would be super happy to get Mr. Bean's CTGP pack, but every time I try I fail.  :( In my opinion, MKWii had the best character roster. It was also very memorable to do he Coconut Mall glitch and much more!
Mario Kart 7 introduced two new mechanics: the glider and underwater racing. The tracks were somewhat interesting with good wifi and a decent roster, but could've been better. There were some major glitches, but were removed in wifi.
Mario Kart 8 is my favorite Mario Kart. It introduced the anti-gravity mechanic, which made the game more fun. It also brought back vehicle customization from MK7, along with gliders and underwater racing. The tracks were very creative, with a unique twist to each one. There is also a hue glitch called edge clipping, which I really like. Good thing there's no MAJOR shortcuts! The wifi and tournaments has improved, with a good VR system. Also, there is DLC which has interesting tracks; there will be 8 more coming in May; we only know 2 of them! Sadly, the character roster could use some major improvement, having a lack of some of my favorite characters.

Unfortunately, still haven't played MK8, so I cannot say how much I will like it. Though, for now it's definitely Mario Kart: Double Dash. That game was simply just madness and craziness. I only have great memories from that game. Yes, it did not have wi-fi, it did not have retro-tracks and it did not have the great graphics that we can have now. Though, it had the fun and great moments. It had a great soundtrack and some of my all-time favorite tracks (Baby Park anyone?, simple, short, but action packed). Also two characters on a car? One of the greatest feature from any Mario Kart game. Also, it had the adorable Petey Pirahna... like literally, I love it haha. I don't think I ever had as much fun with any other MK as I did with MK:DD.

Yeah, but the reason I didn't vote for it was because I've never played it. I like how it's very unique, with the characters and special items.  :)

Super Mario Kart
It's not the most fun game, but hey it started the series! Brownie points there.

Mario Kart 64
So much nostalgia, and still fun to play even today. I played this for endless hours and never got bored. Even battle mode was fantastic. I can't not give this game a vote.

Mario Kart Super Circuit
One of the most lacklustre ones to be honest. Boring stages, small roster, boring game-play etc.

Mario Kart Double Dash!
Again, another game I put much of my time into. It has some of the best level designs, the abundance of items is great and I love the 2 characters per-kart system. However, there was no online and racing wasn't quite as fun as the N64 version, but still good.

Mario Kart DS
Probably the game I could dominate the most at due to the exploitable sliding system, but it did ache your hands after hours of play. Fun to play, but the level design wasn't the best. I did love Airship fortress, though. The game easily has the best battle system of all the games and I may have played it more than racing in general, but it's a shame it lacked many battle courses. Missions were a nice bonus. It had a good quality roster with the essentials, the awesome Dry Bones and although R.O.B. was a one-time guest, he was one of the most unique looking characters the roster will ever see. In addition, it also introduced online, which is an essential for Mario Kart. I have to give this game a vote.

Mario Kart Wii
It got so much stuff wrong, yet so much more stuff right. This is easily the best game of them all. I'll list the negatives first to get them over with. Respawn points were horrible. It introduced the thunder cloud which is agreed by everyone except Staryu to be the worst item of all time. It also introduced individual character stats which is the worst idea anyone has ever come up with, which resulted in the horrible guest character, Funky Kong, being abused online. Fortunately the stats weren't game-breaking and other characters including small ones could win too. In addition, there were map glitches left-right and centre that needed to be patched and the graphics were truly terrible.

However, none of that mattered too much to me because the game-play was spectacular; skilled players could win consistently while at the same time could be screwed over. If you were hit by an item you weren't helplessly waiting for that guy behind you to inevitably hit you with a green shell, (MK8 -_-) thanks to stand still turbo boosting. There was still an element of danger to that brief period of standing motionless. Wheelies made the bikes overpowered however they made the game-play exhilarating, different and skill-based. Those who were more refined went faster.

Yet the perfect item distribution giving overpowered items to those whom needed them at the back meant that less-skilled plays could occasionally win too, and skilled players at the back still had a strong chance of placing top 3. Level design was brilliant, online 12 players was brilliant and the game still had a decent battle mode. The roster was arguably the best quality in the series. I also loved cannon invincibility, I was disappointed that got taken out in subsequent games. :p A small but subtle thing I enjoyed was the little extras you could do as-well. You could race backwards, you could stop entirely and wheelie to greet a friend or let one win. I also set myself a challenge where I waited for the first player to cross the half-way point in the first lap before racing myself to see how well I could do. The game just had a ton of overall replay value and I loved it, and I never really got bored at any point playing it. Playing custom tracks was just the icing on the cake, truly epic. This game gets a very well deserved vote.

Mario Kart 7
While the roster excluded some of my favourite veterans; Rosalina was still playable, it introduced Shy Guy as playable and excluded all of my disliked characters, so yeah... I loved the roster in general. :p The game-play was fun and it's one of the most balanced games in terms of item distribution and how powerful items are. Battle mode was terrible but that's not a problem. The graphics were good and I loved the 3D and it was just a pleasant experience in general to play. I must say though, I didn't find underwater driving revolutionary and I don't find gliding overly fun.

Mario Kart 8 - I've been wanting to say this for a while now, and I've probably missed a few things. xP
I tried to like this game but it's just so bad that I just can't. It's essentially dirt glittered with shiny graphics. Skill is at its bare minimum in this game which is good for letting different players win, but it also means experienced players often lose due to BS reasons. How is it fair that the same player gets hit by 5 consecutive items on a frequent basis? How it is fair that the person with a gigantic lead in first gets hit by triple reds making the person drop down to last depending on if players want to hit you, the guy that's already down? Oh, and almost everyone usually has an attack item in the middle-places convenient for praying on the vulnerable. I personally actively try to avoid hitting people when they're already down, after-all you're usually going to pass them anyway. In the case you're fortunate enough to accelerate to a safe speed, in your item block you get a coin while the guy behind gets a red. Great. Oh well, at least I'll get good items in last, right? *gets a mushroom* What? I need help! But at least it's something. Maybe I'll have better luck in the next box cause it has to give me something good in last. *Gets a green shell* Wtf? What is this supposed to do? Ffs... *Gets a bullet bill* Finally, something good. *Uses it, barely advances to 10th place* Yeah, items in this game are terrible. And while gold mushrooms are great if you do get them, they often won't get you very far because mini-yellow turbo boosts are almost effective as mushrooms themselves making it nearly impossible to pass the people in Front. There's also the strong chance of ramming into a player with an attack item, meaning you'll be back to square 1 again anyway.

In addition, the roster is lacklustre. While it has a lot of characters, 4 Marios, 4 Peach's, 5 babies, and 7 Koopalings is just ridiculous. It's turtle clone kart 8 basically. It also messed up Rosalina's voice on a few of the clips. Large characters are very overpowered, very rarely allowing light characters to win. The level design however is one of the best in the series, and yet the horrible game-play counteracts it, and past levels have been widened to make it more noob-friendly but I much preferred narrower courses. I somehow feel like I've played each track more than the Wii version, yet I've barely touched this game aside from community nights. Outside community nights I can't bring myself to play it because it's just so boring, and I actually feel more inclined to play battle mode, which is at least an attempt to bring back the glorious N64/DS-style battle back. Except there's no battle-exclusive stages. Great.
And before anyone says I don't like it because I lose, I've won basically every community night I've tried, so yeah...

Mario Kart Arcade (series)
Haven't played so I can't say. I love that they added Rosalina, though.

Toblet, I agree with most of it.
MKWii had the best roster because of Funky Kong, Daisy, and other great characters. In my opinion, it was the most glitch, especially in Maple Treeway and Coconut Mall. MKWii wifi brought me some very memorable experiences, especially on May 19th, the last day I played MKWii online. (Community Night) To this day, I still watch that video. I also love those extras, like doing wheelies by your friends and doing tracks backwards. As said before, I've been trying for hours trying to get custom tracks, but I fail every time.  :(
MK7 had a decent roster, with new mechanics. I liked the vehicle customization and the glitches, but some of them got removed from wifi. The battle mode as decent, but could've been better. Overall, the tracks were very creative.
MK8 is my favorite of all time. I understand what you say; these days I do mostly wifi.  :-\ I think the wifi has improved and I love the tournaments. In my opinion, the biggest flaw in this game is obviously the roster. As you said, there are 4 Marios, 4 Peaches, 5 Babies, and 7 Koopalings! This adds up to 18 characters, half the roster! If I were to do the roster, I would bring back Diddy Kong, Bowser Jr, and even Birdo. Even some new characters like Kamek would be a great fit; this would make up for him being cancelled from MK64! The tracks are very unique, and I'm excited for the new DLC tracks! And also the battle mode concept is great, but there NEEDS to be more tracks that are not in the game!
I liked the Mario Kart Arcade game, but it was a bit hard to play. I would guess that they had those in the UK, maybe?

Mario Kart Wii - love the split between bikes & karts, not only did they include 16 new stages, they had 16 retro stages that I loved - seeing the transition from before to after is amazing.

And online play is everything! Seriously, I invested so much time in that game to get 8500 points haha.

Super Mario Kart
The ancestor of the Mario Kart series. Boy, is this game hard. Especially Donut Plains 3. I didn't really like the AI levels being determined by what character you pick (i.e. if you're Mario, DK Jr. will always go for 1st place). The computer is able to jump over items without even using the feather.

dat ending theme tho

Mario Kart Wii
A lot of people may despise Mario Kart Wii, but it's pretty much one of my favorite Mario Kart games of all time. Like Toblet, I'll list some things I don't like about it first. There seems to be no Multiplayer Grand Prix like in previous Mario Kart games, Blue Shell possessions occur more often and the aforementioned Thunder Cloud. It makes you go faster as long as it's on top of you, but sometimes you won't be able to pass the Thunder Cloud over to another driver. The graphics didn't quite improve upon Double Dash. Karts aren't viable and are hard to control compared to inside-drift bikes. Among the worst things has to be Funky Kong and Daisy... their character-specific stat bonuses make them too dominant and you'd be hard-pressed to go online without encountering any Funky Kongs (mostly on Flame Runners) or Daisy Mach Riders.

With those complaints aside, I loved playing this game on Wi-Fi and I've recorded several videos where I play it online. I don't have much of a problem with the physics. There were a few easy ways to avoid getting hit by Blue Shells, via Mushroom or Giant Mushroom.

Mario Kart Arcade GP 1& 2 (it is possible to emulate these two games)
Well, Namco sure tried to make the Mario Kart experience differ from the past. Basically, you're restricted to three different items per race. A lot of the courses have different amounts of laps required to race through. Instead of power sliding, drift hopping brings up a shield that can protect you from items (if you can time it right). Items can only be fired in one direction.

The 2nd one adds an announcer, something that no other Mario Kart game features.

Either Mario Kart 7 or Mario Kart Wii.

MK7 is the best portable game and the only one with online. It also introduced Lakitu into the MK universe, and I like that. :p (I prefer portable games over console ones.)

I still have to play either Double Dash!! or Mario Kart 8, so I have decided for MKW here. I love the 12 player online and how fast and exciting online races are. (If there's no cheaters that is :p) And it's not part of the game, but I really love the CT mods some hackers made for the game. It made it more fun and less repetitive to play.
