Characters for next Smash Bros.

^Perhaps. But that may be raising the profile of other obscure characters like Bubbles (Clu Clu Land), Kururis and others to join the list - well, maybe not.

In terms of Mario or Legend of Zelda characters, they're already overloaded, so I doubt more characters will join in those series. From what I can see, a series that could get some more characters is Metroid - as in terms of adding other bounty hunters.

yes indeed, also the STAR FOX characters are overloaded.
actually Porky should join the next SSB, it will increase the NESS characters.

did melee have more characters?

Melee had 25 characters. Brawl had 35.
 
Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Wario, Daisy, Waluigi, Toad, Toadette, DK, Bowser, all the other characters from SSBB. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Cream, Shadow, Dr. Eggman, Rouge, Silver, Blaze, E123 Omega, Espio, Charmy, Vector, and other Major Sonic Characters should make it. Shinx and Jirachi would make a good idea, because these are Frannintendo64's favorite pokemon. I think Shinx's final smash should be the ability to change into Luxio (pernament), and then the second time, Luxray (pernament), and then the third time and beyond, Super Discharge. Super Discharge is an attack where the whole field becomes spread out with electricity.
 
Me, I'd say Hitmonchan, Krystal, Tails, Crash, Raving Rabbid, Mega Man, and (prep yourself) 4 characters from internatoinal TV cartoons: Spongebob, Bart Simpson, Leonardo, and Slimer! If you complain about these four, it's my choice, besides, the first one had Nintendo characters from first and second parties plus some classics, the second one introduced villians and system sponsorers, and the third had third-parties. TV characters are my choice.

It's your choice, but it's my CHOICE to hate it. AND I DO! >=) HAHAHHAAHAHAH

Anyway, here are my characters: Toad, Thwomp, Splunkin, Poison Mushroom, Staryu, Nintendog, Amy, Barabara the Bat,  Starfy, Starly, Moe, Metroid, Paula, Jeff, Poo, Shorty, Columbo, Frida&Comet, & Sushi Boy.
