Mario Kart Wii
mkwii_racing_1280.jpg

Ahhh, Mario Kart Wii. It is without a doubt, my 2nd favorite Mario Kart of all time. (Not including CTGP) MKWii delivers new aspects and brings back some old memories as well. While old items return, wheelies and tricks are introduced.

I'll start off with the character roster. Out of any game, this game had the best character roster. It had a vast amount of characters, with both oldies and newbies. I gotta say, I absolutely love Funky Kong and Daisy as characters, but they are a bit OP. They have great speed, and work well when using a bike like the Flame Runner (heavyweight) and the Mach Bike (middleweight). There weren't  any characters that I hated, which is a good thing. (Except for Baby Peach and Daisy) It's also fun using different characters to experiment with glitches and to explore. I also like how clans used to use certain characters besides FK and Daisy, showing that the roster has more variety in both new and old characters.

Then, the tracks. The tracks were surprisingly decent. I liked the idea of the new tracks, but some of the retro tracks felt a little too basic. As a nice touch, some awesome glitchers even found some ultra shortcuts in them. However, it's a bit unfair when people in worldwides used to do ultra shortcuts to get a ridiculous amount of VR. I also enjoyed the exploration in Coconut Mall, as it gave a vast amount of areas to explore. Non glitch-wise, most of the tracks were smooth (pavement) and had something unique about them. The music was appealing as well. It fitted well with the tracks and how they were balanced.

Do I even have to mention the modes? Before the WFC disconnected May 20, 2014, I loved the WiFi play. For me, it didn't fully work until 2013, 3 years after I got the game. It was very memorable, playing races that worked pretty well online. I rarely got dc'd after that, and I've even gotten all the way up to the 9999 VR mark a few times. I also enjoyed when hackers came, but only to give us the Thunder Cloud glitch. Besides WiFi, I liked the tournament mode, where we could do challenges and go for the lowest score. I also liked how you could look at the WR and top 10 for each track. It also gave you a ranking, which I liked.

Finally, the items. Most of the items were good, but the Thunder Cloud, Blooper, and even the POW Block were useless. I hated those moments where I got the TC and shrunk...The Blooper and POW Block barely affected play, and all I had to do was shake the Wii remote or go over a boost panel. In reality, MK8 did a better job with the Blooper because it decreased your handling. Otherwise, I like how the items are well-balanced, and you could choose in VS Mode what "level" of items you want to play with. The Mushrooms and Star make good use of shortcuts because you can cut corners and take routes that you can't use without shrooms.

Overall, MKWii is a really good game. It does a great job in most aspects, but there are little and minor flaws.

Tracks/Design: 9/10
Character Roster: 10/10
Modes: 8.5/10
Fun to Play: 8.5/10

MKWii gets a 9/10.

MKWii Custom Track Grand Prix

This is a short review btw...

MKWii CTGP is basically an altered version of MKWii, with mods and a new wifi system, but most importantly, the Custom Tracks! There's over 200 tracks to choose from, and there's a variety of them! Not only that, but they are challenging and fun to play on! Is it just me, or do fans make better games than Nintendo? The tracks look visually appealing and have various routes that make the gameplay interesting. However, a few tracks are just way too long. In my opinion, a "long" track takes 4 or more minutes to complete, despite the number of laps.

Next, the modes. Like MKWii, there's GP, Time Trials, VS, and Battle. Despite the similarities, there are significant differences. For one, they brought the back the wifi connection using a system called Wiimmfi, created by Wiimm and Leseratte. What's really nice about this is that it brings back VS online, but then adds a new mode called Countdown. How it works is that the time starts with a specific amount of minutes (and maybe seconds). Your goal is to get as far as you can and do as many laps as possible. However, 3 seconds are added to your time for each person you hit with an item. You can get a max of 10 items hit, meaning up to 30 seconds are added! I also like how there are new items compared to normal gameplay, like the Triple FIBs and the Mushroom + Bomb Combo. The aspect of this never gets old! Friend rooms also return, and there's even new commands you can use!

I can't really talk about this that much, but there are mods in it. (Never used one though) From what I've seen, the mods look pretty interesting, but IDK if I wanna get any, however. My favorites are the ones made by TWD98 and MrBean35000VR.

Overall, CTGP is a ridiculously good hack. There are new aspects in the gameplay that MKWii has. And 6 months of trying to get this has obviously paid off. :)

CTGP gets a 9.6/10

Super Mario 3D World

SM3DW was a pretty good Wii U platformer. There were 12 total worlds, with each having a decent amount of levels.

Speaking of levels, let's discuss them. Each level had a unique name that corresponded to the level, and some had some pretty "hidden" secrets. Also, there were 3 green stars and a stamp in each level. The green stars would allow you to travel farther into the game, while the stamps gave you a more vast amount of options in Miiverse posts. The levels themselves were actually pretty good for a 3D platformer. However, I wish there were a few more secret goals in them, and some more exploration. On the bright side, the levels were appealing and looked pretty nice.

Wow, the music was really nice for this. It obviously related to the specific level/map in an exceptional manner, and some of them were very catchy. (Not as catchy as others lol) The music definitely sounded like this game came out...yesterday (not literally though!) Not toooooo much else to say though about it, except that it was great! :p

Most of the levels were fun to play. I liked playing solo, but I enjoyed watching playthroughs of multiple people playing - they were very chaotic! For me, I liked playing solo so I could explore the level and find all the collectables. I also liked speedrunning them after using the Cat Mario trick as well. Even after, it got a bit boring to play, however. Besides the levels themselves, I liked the map features. There were Toad Houses, Sprixie Houses, hidden items, and even Captain Toad levels. I liked the aspect of tilting the screen to play boxed levels playing as Captain Toad! It was interesting, so interesting that they made a whole game out of Captain Toad levels in which I loved!

Finally, the items. I liked how they brought back original items, but I really liked the new items. The Cat Suit was a unique idea that was used to find secrets by climbing walls, while the Double Cherry made clones of yourself, used for health purposes and platforms that required a certain number of (insert character here). There were a few others that weren't as common, like the Lucky Bell, but they were fun to use as well!

SM3DW definitely rebuilt the 3D Mario series. Definitely a great game that would('ve) been nice to check out for some time!

Graphics/Quality/Music: 9.5/10
Level Design: 9.5/10
Replayability: 8/10
Fun to Play: 9/10

FINAL: 9/10

Actually, I may do some SMM levels. If you're interested, PM me any level(s) you want me to review + the code (ANY type is allowed as long as it's appropriate), and I may do 1-2 a week or whatever works best.
New poll up as well.
