The opening to Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games for Wii U has been revealed! In addition to the new footage and screenshots, the game is now set to release on June 24 in North America.With that said, check out all the new media below!

Seeing Peach in Rugby makes me believe that every characters can participate in every sports (or at least, more than the 3DS version).
Also, Peach, Daisy, Blaze and Rouge were in Volleyball,
That’s awesome! Volleyball looks so great at night! Even better than at day! And Rosa looks beautiful in this, tho I really didn’t like that she wears her leotard for VERY sports. She has a sports outfit in Ultra Smas hafter all.
We only saw her in 1 sport. I don’t think that she would do Rugby Sevens while wearing no shoes.
Yeah, but in the intro, when she is shown with the rest of the cast waving, everyone is in their usual sports outfit, except her.
Toad and Boom Boom seem to be on Team Mario in the crowd shot in place of Ludwig and Roy… weird.
LOVE that they pointed out that this game was getting an intro. They’ve been paying attention to fan comments lol.
Maybe in the Wii U version they removed Cream and Birdo like someone said? I hope not, but I don’t like them SO much, so to me it’s fine.
It’s odd. While only 3 of the known playable characters on the Sonic side from the 3DS game are missing (Cream, Omega, and Eggman Nega) 5 Mario characters are missing (Birdo, Ludwig, Roy, Dry Bones and Dry Bowser) while two new Mario characters (Toad and Boom Boom) are present. To me this implies the Wii U version has a larger roster overall with a different starting line-up and a different set of unlockables than the 3DS version. I’m going to guess that they, along with a couple of new characters that weren’t in the 3DS game are going to serve as “rivals”/unlockables in the Wii U game.
That or they aren’t going to be playable in this version of the game. :O
Yeah I feel the same way. Dry Bowser’s flag has been spotted in the trailer so we know he’s gonna show up at least.

It’s very hard to see at regular speed, but if you look near Zavok’s hand(the one at his side) at the begging of the trailer when the camera is panning past Team Sonic at around the 00:20 mark you can see it in the background.
They probably couldn’t fit all of the characters onto the podiums, since it’d be like five extra Mario characters and three extra Sonic characters that would have to fit onto that space.
Although saying that, I am wondering why Boom Boom is on the Mario podium when he isn’t a playable character? I mean the spot easily could’ve gone to one of the missing Mario characters.
