Mini Star #1
Welcome to Vortex Island, home of the giant whirlpool! There’s a Toad House further on in the island, and that’s where you’ll want to head. Exit the ship and start making your way past the broken bridge and into the cave tunnel.
There isn’t much to do in the cave tunnel, outside of taking note of the gray poles pushing the treasure chest in the air. Nothing you can do about these poles just yet! Exit the cave and enter the Toad House. Colorize the Toad and he’ll tell you about a parallel world nearly identical to this one. He says the entrance to it is just outside in his garden. Pshh, okay.
Use the Save Block to save, then gill in the color near the pipe. Pull of the tape, then the Cork Thing, then hop inside. WHOA. It’s a little more than an identical world!
Smashing any wooden pole in this version of the world will remove the corresponding gray pole in the other version, and vice versa. Hit the wood block in the fence in the parallel world to remove the gray pole in the normal world. Head into the cave. Remove the wood poles here to bring down the treasure in the normal world. Exit the cave.
Since there isn’t any water in the parallel world, walk under the broken bridge and jump to reveal hidden blocks. Hit them all to form a bridge. Cross the bridge to find that the path to the vortex is blocked by gray poles.
Return back to the warp pipe and enter back into the normal world. Go back to the fixed bridge and cross it. There you’ll find your crew blocked off from the vortex by a couple of wooden poles. Smash those suckers in! Before you head back to the parallel world, take the north path and smash in the wooden poles here. The parallel world has a giant paint bubble you can collect.
In the parallel world, return to the vortex and walk down the long path to a door. Open it to find yourself in a laundry room… and the Washing Machine Thing is causing the vortex!
Squeeze the Washing Machine and you’ll upset Laundry Guy. Get ready for battle! But it turns out he was not the only one affected by the Washing Machine’s demise. Expect to fight a stack of Shy Guys, a Koopa Troopa, and a Sledge Bro. next!
With that in hand, return to the normal world and speak with your crew. Head back to the ship and sail off to the Mini Star. This will unlock Lighthouse Island.
