Mario Party: Star Rush brings the series to the Nintendo 3DS for the second time and adds a new fast paced and ally collecting main mode.
In Toad Scramble, players start as different colored Toads as they try to reach the boss space on each board and collect the most stars. Players who defeat the two to five bosses that appear on each board are granted starts, and coins collected at the end of the game are also converted into stars. As you maneuver around the free-roaming board, ally characters appear that can be added to your team. These characters are pretty important since they’ll provide exclusive dice blocks and join you in boss minigames.
Coinathlon is a non-stop mode where players collect coins in minigames that simultaneously power characters to move around a board. Balloon Bash is a dumbed down version of the classic Mario Party style, complete with returning items. There’s also some amiibo features, a rhythm mode, and a pretty cool puzzle focused Challenge Tower.
