Episode 1 – Dune Bud Sand Castle Secret
A very simple start to the first mission. There’s a dune bud situated right in the middle of the beach, specifically the one the camera zooms in on during the episode preview. Run over to it, water it, and watch a sandcastle rise out of the sand nearby. Run right through the sandcastle’s door!
Secret course time! As always, FLUDD is removed. The idea is to run and jump without stopping. The sand blocks will start to disintegrate the moment you touch them so standing still to think or readjust is not an option. The orange blocks are safe and you can take a break there. Once you reach the end, start using side jumps to quickly reach the top of all the sand blocks. Do this by moving away from the block, then sharply pushing towards the block and jumping. Shine is at the top!
Episode 2 – Mirror Madness! Tilt, Slam, Bam!
Three mirrors, one egg. The goal is to knock off the red Plungelo enemies off all the mirrors in order for the mirrors to shine light on the egg. Climb trees, go up slopes, and use the dune bud to grow stairs in the back to get to the mirrors from higher heights. Once on the mirror, spray the Plungelo to one side until they’re barely holding on with one foot. At that moment, ground pound the other side of the mirror to send them flying! Do this for all the mirrors to get the shine!
Episode 3 – Wiggler Ahoy! Full Steam Ahead!
Boss fight! Wiggler isn’t too happy about the egg hatching incident from the last episode. Wiggler charges all around the beach, passing over dune buds in the process. Just as Wiggler is passing over one, spray the dune bud to launch the emerald worm into the air and onto its back. Now get up there and ground pound its weak spot, specifically where the arrow pops up! Do this three times for the shine!
Episode 4 – The Sand Bird is Born
The egg has hatched! Get behind the main tower and look for a dune bud squashed into a small cove. Spray it to form a set of stairs, then run to the top of the hill. Slide down the hill following the line of coins, jumping at the ledge and using the trampoline to enter the secret course.
Ah, the famed sand bird. As the slowly flapping sand bird continues to fly higher, collect the seven red coins scattered about across the bird’s back. It sounds simple until you realize you are always in motion. Try to keep jumping to a minimum so stay as close to the bird as you can. Just because you have FLUDD doesn’t mean you have to use it.
From the starting cloud, get dropped off at the center where the first red coin is at. From there, collect the coins on the wings. The coins at the very end of the wing can be collected when that wing is moving up. Don’t want to slip off! Now with five coins collected, walk up the neck of the bird to grab the sixth coin. Now wait here! The bird will start to turn and you’ll want a stable location where you can move to the other side of the neck once the bird makes a 90 degree turn. Do so, then do slowly go back once the bird flips to its normal stance. Now, without jumping, run down the bird’s tail for the seventh coin. The last red coin is at the top of the tower. Once the bird is high enough, go over to the left wing and jump off it when it points upward.
Episode 5 – Il Piantissimo’s Sand Sprint
See the man dressed in purple? Speak to him to race him to the top of the hill. Your best route is to trible jump up to the area behind the tower where the dune bud creates the set of stairs. Instead of wasting time spraying the little plant, do a side jump and wall jump so you’re high enough to hover up to the ledge. Run up the path and reach the top! Make sure to touch the white pole before Il Piantissimo gets there.
Episode 6 – Red Coins in the Coral Reef
A fairly simple challenge! There are eight red coins to collect inside the coral reef behind the watermelon shack. The Gelato Beach red coins:
- Six coins are hiding within the reef itself. Two in each major section.
- The final two coins follow separate schools of fish. Don’t stagger, grab the coin quickly before the fish scatter!
Episode 7 – It’s Shadow Mario! After Him!
It’s a Shadow Mario challenge! The goal is to spray the blue pest with enough water to cause him to trip. Shadow Mario will start climbing up the hill before sliding back down to the beach. If you lose track of him, try to listen for his theme song. That means he is close!
Episode 8 – The Watermelon Festival
Let’s just get this out of the way now. IT’S NOT YOUR FAULT. The watermelons are super janky and can be unpredictable when it comes to what makes them pop so easily. Get up to the top of the hill to find a watermelon at the amphitheater. Your goal is to somehow guide the watermelon down the hill and get it to the watermelon shack on the right.
Rolling it down the hill will have random and more than likely disastrous results, so we suggest pushing the watermelon along the path that continues on the edge of the hill. Once you reach a safer spot on the hill that is free of trees and other obstacles, push it down. Once on the sand, ground pound any Cataquacks that might in the way and push the watermelon to the wooden path. Gently push the watermelon and carefully guide it to the end.
Gaming Reinvented has a neat technique that ensures a safer path if you spend a bit more time preparing. Cataquacks can actually be eliminated if they are struck by the dunes that pop out when you spray dune buds on the beach. Use them to clear out the Cataquacks on the beach. For the Cataquacks up on the grassy ledge, have them chase you and jump and hover past the edge to make them fall to the beach below. With the Cataquacks gone, feel free to roll the big watermelon down the hill without too much worry! Video link here for a look at how to make this happen.
Secret Shine 1 – Red Coins in the Sand Castle
Return to Episode 1 and enter the secret course for a red coin challenge. Hit the red switch to get 60 seconds to collect all the coins. The Gelato Beach red coins:
- First three are along the path leading to the final section.
- Two on the two front corners of the final area.
- In the center of the final structure.
- The final two are higher up on the orange blocks.
Secret Shine 2 – Sandy Shine Sprite
To the left of the dune bud that creates the stairs leading to the hill is another dune bud at the base of the mirror tower. Spray it form a second set of stairs, this time leading down to seemingly nothing. At the end, spray the water to reveal a shine outline. Spray it enough to uncover a shine!
100 Coins Shine
The Gelato Beach 100 coins challenge. Collect 100 coins without dying or leaving a level to earn an additional star. Collect all the coins you see laying around but do keep in mind the following tips as you play. Remember, red coins and blue coins do not count to your total! Try going to Episode 8!
