Our Lethal Lava Land stars guide is part of our Super Mario 64 walkthrough and features all seven Power Stars and their locations.
Like every world in our Super Mario 64 walkthrough, Lethal Lava Land has a total of seven stars to collect. Six are obtained through the level stages while the final star is earned once you collect 100 coins in a single run. Jump to each of the Lethal Lava Land stars with the links below!

Star 1 – Boil the Big Bully
The Big Bully is located on the opposite side of the map. To get there, go under the arch at the start, take a left, pass the Mr. I, run past the red coin area, and follow the path to the lifted brown platform. To take down the Big Bully, continuously knock it back with jump kicks. Repeat without failing and knock the enemy into the lava. When you go for the star, keep in mind the stairs will fall after you step on them!
Star 2 – Bully the Bullies
Follow the same path as you did for the first level but this time pass the Big Bully and ride the metal platform to an area with three normal sized Bullies. Knock all three off to summon a Big Bully. Knock the big one off to get the star. Save the ring of coins just in case you get pushed off!
Star 3 – 8-Coin Puzzle with 15 Pieces
Go under the arch at the start, take a left, pass the Mr. I, and enter the area with the sliding tiles. All eight red coins are here. You don’t have to do anything with the panels, just avoid standing on any that start to shake. Collect all the red coins and claim your star.
Star 4 – Red-Hot Log Rolling
Go under the arch at the start and this time go right. Start moving across the gray checkered platforms and get to the area with two Bullies. From there, ride the metal grate across the lava while avoiding the upward spraying flamethrowers. Get up onto the rolling log. Stand on the left side of the log to get it to turn, jumping at the last second to regain your footing. Follow the path to the star!
Star 5 – Hot-Foot-It into the Volcano
Pass the arch and open the yellow block to find a Koopa Shell. Ride it over to the volcano in the center of the map and use the shell to enter through the top. Start walking around the spiraling path to go up higher inside the volcano. Watch out for falling walls! Get to the poles and turn your back to the one you’re trying to jump to before jumping. Star is at the end!
Star 6 – Elevator Tour in the Volcano
Return to the inside of the volcano and this time go the opposite direction from the start to find a checkered elevator. Step on to get moving. Once you see the next elevator, jump to it as the old one will suddenly drop. Do this again for the next elevator and then jump onto the pole. Climb up the pole but don’t go all the way, there’s a spinning firebar at the top! Try to position yourself so that your back faces the next pole. Jump, grab the next pole, climb up, then jump across the platforms to the next star.
Star 7 – 100 Coins Star
Collect 100 coins without dying or leaving a level to earn an additional star. Collect all the coins you see laying around but do keep in mind the following tips as you play. There’s a possible 133 coins to collect.
- Use the Koopa Shell to collect coins from isolated islands.
- Mr. I enemies give out blue coins.
- Red coins are easy to collect here.
- You can still collect coins inside the volcano, but you can’t exit this area so make sure to do it last.
