Shiver City
Were you able to find your way to Shiver City? Fret not! From the start of the Toad Town Tunnels, go down the hole, cross the water to your right, use Lakilester to pass over the spikes leading to a warp pipe, use hidden blocks to form a path to a blue door, then head down another pipe to reach the icy section. For all the extra details, check out the end of our Chapter 6 guide page.
You made it to Shiver City. What a peaceful town. Let’s focus on the objective at hand before doing any of the collectibles. Go all the way to the left and enter the last building. Walk into the second room of the house to find the mayor dead on the floor! After some screaming and frantic accusations, Mario is framed for the murder.
Let’s do some investigating. Return outside and go to two areas to the east. Here you’ll find a frozen lake. Stand in the middle and do three Spin Jumps to crack the ice. Use Sushi to hop in the water and dive to get the Warehouse Key. Use it to open the locked door in the same area.
Inside, walk up the steps and use the spring pad to reach the roof. Slide down the left side of the roof to land on the other building. Hop into the chimney and go down!
Here you’ll find Herringway. Speak with him for a bit and he’ll agree to go with you to see the mayor. Do so and the supposedly dead mayor will spring to life. Mission accomplished! Now you can head to Starborn Valley.
But before you do, let’s get some collectibles out of the way. Once outside, smack the ground to the right of the mayor’s home to find a Star Piece. In the same area as the mayor’s house, enter the building on the right. Climb up the books to reach the shelf, then exit through the window. Now outside, use Parakarry to reach the next building. Enter the window and open the chest to find Attack FX E badge.
Starborn Valley
Now we’re off to Starborn Valley. To get there we’ll need to pass through Shiver Snowfield. Do so by exiting Shiver City through the exit on the right. The simple path will end with a fight against the ever persistent Jr. Troopa. This time he has 50HP. Defeat him and continue on to the next room.
Whack the second tree closest to the path multiple times to reveal a Letter underneath the branches. South of the snowmen and close to the edge of the map is a hidden Star Piece you can uncover by hitting the ground with your hammer. Not much else to do in this room except head to the exit on the right.
One more room. Grab the Letter behind the ice pillar and attempt to get through the exit. You’ll be stopped by the Monster. As scary as it looks, it’s actually very weak with low attack and only 20HP. Turns out the Monster was made up of multiple Star Kids. On to the next room!
Starborn Valley! This small town doesn’t have much, but it does have the home Merle. Speak to the shaman and he’ll gift you the Scarf. Neat. Nothing else to do here. Head all the way back to Shiver City and return to the mayor. Speak with him and he’ll give you a Bucket.
Take both the Scarf and the Bucket back to Shiver Snowfield and head over to the line of snowmen. Place the two items on the snowmen missing clothing to open up a new path leading to Shiver Mountain.

Shiver Mountain
In the icy cave, perform a Spin Jump over the ice to smash through into the green switch. This will raise the platform allowing you to progress. Go through the cave and exit to the outdoors. Grab the Pebble at the lower end of the path. You’ll want it for later!
Hit the blue switch with Kooper and a Duplighost will appear and take on the form of our blue shelled friend. Whack the Kooper to the left to reveal it as the duplicate. And fight!
With that over, continue following the path. Make sure to take the next set of stairs to the left to get the last Super Block! In the next room you’ll come across three items placed in three different pedestals. If you take out any items, you’ll be locked out from progressing. You can take an item and replace it with something else, hopefully a lesser item. Like that Pebble!
In the next room, walk past the star shaped indent in the ice and drop down. Bomb the wall to enter a secret cave. Walk through the invisible hole in the wall on the right to find Madame Merlar in the next room. Let her do her shpeal and at the end you’ll get the Star Stone.
Place that bad boy in the star shaped hole in the ice to form a long flight of stairs. You’ll notice a White Clubba as you go up. Get past it to find a red question block holding a Mega Jump badge. Once you reach the Save Block, slowly walk off the ledge to drop down to a Star Piece. Reach the top to find a Heart Block, then head inside to get to the Crystal Palace!
Crystal Palace
The Crystal Palace can be confusing at time with the reflections and mirrored rooms but it’s not quite as expansive as it seems. To start enter the actual building, then go through the door to the south. Walk two rooms to the right to find a Blue Key in a chest.
Return the main room and hit the switch to swap the red door for a blue door. Use your newly acquired key to unlock the blue door. Inside, bomb the wall on the right to find a room with many pillars. Notice something in the middle? The glass is missing. Walk through to get to the other side of the room. It’s not a reflection, all these rooms are mirrored! So who did you see walking around on the other side?
Just like you did to get to this mirrored room, bomb the wall to head to the left. You’ll also have to fight a Duplighost taking on the form of your partner. Return to the mirrored version of the main lobby. Before proceeding, keep walking left as if to leave the Crystal Palace. Get outside and enter the next room. Since it’s the mirrored version, you don’t end up back in Shiver Mountain. Instead you’ll find yourself in a cave with a Star Piece.
Back in the mirrored version of the main room, take the door to the north. You have two options here. You can do the optional route and go two rooms to the right to find a Shooting Star battle item. The required route has you doing a Spin Jump over the plank of wood to reach the area underground. If you’re not collecting things, breaking the wood is all you need to do. Otherwise, continue to the right and you’ll eventually find a chest with a P-Down, D-Up badge.
Time to backtrack! Go all the way back to the room where you can walk through the hole in the glass to get from the mirrored side to the normal side. Go back to the main room and enter the door to the south. Remember that red X you saw on the floor? Thanks to the wood smashing on the mirrored side, there should now be a hole there. Drop down and go two rooms to the right. Bomb the wall to reach the Red Key. You’ll also run into a group of Duplighosts again. Our real partner uses normal punctuation, no symbols or ellipses! Whack all the imposters.
Return to the main room and open up the locked red door. Hit the blue switch if the blue door is currently down! Pass through the room with hole in the glass and enter the next room. Mandatory White Clubba battles! Defeating all three will remove the stone White Clubba statues in the mirrored version of the room. Return to the hole in the mirror and start heading right. Statues are gone so you can access the next room! In the third room, start up Bombette’s ability on the red switch while you jump onto the rotating platform in the center. Now you’re on the other side!
Before you use the rotating platform, bomb the wall on the right to discover a hole. Get past the Duplighost and open the chest to get the Triple Dip badge.
Get past the White Clubba in the first room, then switch to Kooper in the second room. Copy your reflection by sending Kooper through the small hole on the right. And out come a bunch more Duplighosts! The real Kooper is… quite obvious. Whack all the characters that aren’t Kooper and fight them off in battle. In the next room, ignore the door to the south for now. Run into the next room and take note of the blue switch on the mirrored side. Use Kooper’s ability to get your reflection to hit the switch and for a bridge!
Past the bridge and in the next room, walk through the glass to get to the mirrored section. Start backtracking to the left until you reach the door to the north. Walk inside and jump around the left side to find a hidden block. Use your hammer underneath the hidden block to find a Star Piece!
See the small Albino Dino statue to the left to reveal a hole. Moving the statue was the important part. If you want to get an extra badge, drop down into the hole and go two rooms to the right to find a P-Up, D-Down badge in a chest.
Backtrack time! Exit the room with the small Albino Dino statue. See the door to the south? That’s where you need to go. Go all the way right and walk through the hole in the glass, then make your way to the door. Once inside, hit your hammer under the question block to find a Star Piece just like in the mirrored room!
That big Albino Dino Statue should have moved to the left thanks to you moving the smaller statue in the mirrored version of this room. Drop down the hole and go two rooms to the right to find the Palace Key.
Return to the right most room and use the Palace Key on the locked door. The goal of this puzzle is to get all three Albino Dinos on each of the three switches on the floor. Do this by pushing the Albino Dino statues in those same spots in the mirrored version. Take note, you can only push a statue in the direction that it’s facing. To get statue to turn and twist, talk to the corresponding Albino Dino while forcing them to turn and look at you. Once you finish the puzzle, go up the stairs. Heal and save!
Boss: Crystal King
The chilly ice king starts with 70HP and 2 defense. For that reason alone, using Watt’s standard attack to ignore defense is a safe bet, especially because it doesn’t cost any FP. Right from the start, the Crystal King will summon three Crystal Bits. If let alone, these three icy creatures will do deal 4 damage each. It’s best to get rid of them each turn with a multi-hit attack like Lakilester’s Spiny Surge or using a Star Spirit move like Star Storm. Spend Mario’s turn dealing damage to the king. Repeat this pattern until the Crystal King is done with.
There are a few things to take note of. The Crystal King will use a duplicating move where he’ll split into three. One real king among two fakes. You can take a chance and attack at random or you can use another multi-hit move like Kooper’s Power Shell to reveal the true king. Also be aware of his ice zap attack! Getting hit without blocking will freeze you and Mario won’t be able to attack the next turn.

Peach’s Castle (Intermission)
We’re back at Peach’s Castle but you don’t have to do a thing! Just listen to Bowser and Kammy go at it for a bit.
One More Trip to Toad Town
And there’s really not much to do in Toad Town either. Once you feel you’re ready for the final chapter, head to Shooting Star Summit (past Peach’s Castle in Toad Town) and walk up the hill. There the Star Spirits will create a handy beam that shoots you up into the sky.
