Wing Mario Over the Rainbow

Wing Mario Over the Rainbow is one of three secret levels in Super Mario 64, where Mario uses the Wing Cap to collect eight Red Coins and get a Power Star. The level contains two platforms with a cannon on each, and four solid clouds, which are connected by rainbows. Two of the clouds are transparent and Mario can fly straight through them. A Bob-omb Buddy appears, and Mario has to talk to him to open the cannons. This is the only secret level that features the use of cannons. There are six red ! Blocks strategically placed around the level making it easy for Mario to get from one cloud to another. However, if the player falls from the level, he/she will not die, but he/she will actually land in the pond outside Princess Peach's Castle.

Stars:
Star 1: Using the Wing Cap and cannons, Mario must fly around the level and collect the eight Red Coins to make a Power Star appear.
Star 2 (DS only): A black Brick Block can be found on one of the clouds. If Wario can get to the block (either by long jumping or use of a Cannon), he can break it to earn a Power Star.

The entrance is on the left side of the third floor near Tick Tock Clock in a niche high up in the wall, opposite to the entrance of Rainbow Ride. All this is behind the big star door in the castle's upper levels, requiring 50 power stars to enter.

In Super Mario 64 DS, the level was retitled Over the Rainbows.

I never like this level - because I always confused this with "Rainbow Ride" - and, whenever I fell of the edge (which is all the time), I had to re-climb Peach's Castle to get here! (Stupid Wing Cap's Limited time usage...)
That's the only thing I didn't like about this level.

Additionally, I think, in the DS version, I love how there are trees up there. XD!

DS version: I know Nintendo added the trees there.

Here's a trick (DS only): Enter the course as another character instead of Mario. (You will notice his cap and a ? Block) Hit the ? Block and a Power Flower will appear, quickly grab Mario's cap, then get the flower, and you'll be Balloon Mario! You will be able to reach the highest clouds.

Remember, if you fall, you must start all over at the Castle Grounds.

This course is very cool! I like that you could use Wing Mario everytime, and I liked the extra quest in DS version.
Though, I always confused this with Rainbow Ride....
DS version (back in 2005): It confused me also since the start (thinking it was Rainbow Ride but that was a lot larger), but it took me later to find out that this was a secret level of the castle.

Yeah, I would definitely take losing a life then to climb back all the way back up the castle lol.

I hated this stage so much, mainly because of the Winged Cap being hard to control and the fact that the highest clouds seem to be impossible to reach. I also hated the cannon part where you had to shoot up to the vines. :p

I know how that feels when starting all over.

I use Balloon Mario in Super Mario 64 DS to get to the vines. For the DS version, I can but in the N64 version, I must be Wing Mario and use the cannon. It's so easy!
