Attempted on the DS version because I wanted to fight Bowser as Yoshi - not Mario.
I failed, unfortunately :(
I tried out the same thing, but I failed as well. It would be cool to fight Bowser as Yoshi, though.
I have before - I borrowed a hacked version that just let me teleport to the stage as any character :p

I've always wanted to do that without having to used a hacked game, though...

No-one would reach "Bowser in the Sky" unless they bypass the stairs by;

1. Getting the Number of Powers Stars assigned. (70 in the original, 80 in the DS remake)
2. Use the glitch (N64 only)

Sadly in the DS remake, only Mario can fight Bowser in the final showdown. The other three characters (Luigi, Yoshi and Wario) were rejected by Bowser.

If Bowser could reject those three - why didn't he just do that to Mario as well? He doesn't seem to think half the time ~ :p

Still ~ if he really wanted to win - he could have just held them all off there while he prepares for an escape or something.

If Bowser rejects Mario, he would have won. But the Power of the Stars has caused the Mystery of the Endless Stairs to be solved for Mario.

In 64 ~ that made sense - by in DS, Bowser seemed to be able to keep the endless stairs going for the others - that's what I didn't get... as to why Bowser chose that...

I think only Nintendo wanted Mario to be the only character to fight Bowser in the final showdown.

I only wished Nintendo gave a better reason for only letting Mario go to fight Bowser instead...

I remember watching a video where Yoshi can enter the final Bowser level without AR, but I can't find that video...still looking for one. There was a similar video of it, but Luigi was used instead.
AR stands for Action Replay from Datel. I have a DSi version of it. I only used it in Mario Kart DS. But there could be another hack/glitch instead of the cheat codes.
