Quality of newer games

The quality of newer games may seem better on the outside but they don't last longer and don't have the same appeal as they used to. I grew up on good, glitchy, low graphics, gameplay that took me at least 100 hours to beat. Now, I can't play most games (RPGs are usually exceptions) without beating it or getting bored within 24 hours. I don't want to play a game that's 60/50 dollars if it doesn't even last that long. Is it just me or do games these day get worse and worse? Is it because I grew up with older games, or do the new games just suck?

As a retro fan, I have to agree.

Gaming has become too commercialized and too competitive. The games seem like they are only there to get players to switch from console to console, comparing graphics, loading times, gameplay, etc. I think back then, people just made games to just let people have fun. It's not like that today in my opinion.

Only games that really gave me that "WOW!" factor this year was DKCR, Epic Yarn, La-Mulana, and Arkham Asylum.

If I picked these kinds of games from 2000 - 2010, it still wouldn't match my total number of kickass games from the 90's or 80's combined.

Quality of newer games today seem good to me. But not all that great with games back then.

I mean seriously. Just take what Aegis said for example. Those are probably my exact thoughts about this situation.

I'm half and half on this one. I love the retro games because that's what I grew up playing and I've spent hours on the retros. The games now are pretty fun and have great graphics, but their replay value just isn't as great as the old ones. The old ones might not have been as great, graphically, but they were the most entertaining. They don't make games now as good and challenging compared to the retros. They just need to make the games hard to beat, imo.

games from the NES aged well.

Metroid, Kid Icarus, Ninja Gaiden, and Adventure of Link beg to differ.

You cut out some. :p By some I meant games like Mega Man or Super Mario Bros 3.

The Mega Man series was probably one of my personal favorite NES series. So gooood.
