Project Cafe is a lie (Maybe)

I saw an article earlier than NintendoLife debunked the whole 'Project Cafe' deal.

Nintendo Life is teasing Wii HD details from “a trusted source,” but are remaining tight-lipped on the specifics for the moment. They do offer some advice though:

All we can say so far is: don’t believe everything you read online. Other than from us, of course. May hear solid details next week…

Beyond that, there’s a few tweets that are difficult to distinguish whether or not they’re simply opinions or hints at what may be revealed in the coming weeks. For instance, one tweet seems to discredit the Project Café rumors:

Nintendo is a Japanese company. Why would a secret project have a French name?

They also claim a touchscreen on the controller “doesn’t make sense,” explaining:

Nintendo has sold more handheld consoles than anyone. Why have a controller with a screen in? Why not use DS?

Finally, they say the Wii HD “should be very powerful,” which echoes previous rumors, although sounds the most speculative of the bunch. Let’s hope they let slip what they know before April 26th rolls around so we can indulge in a little extra speculation.

Update: Nintendo Life has continued the teasing, saying the details they know about the Wii HD are “significant enough that we can’t reveal what they are,” so we probably won’t end up getting any specifics from them.

Update #2: Maybe I spoke too soon. A reader of this blog got Nintendo Life to share that the Wii HD will be “a combination of everything you would expect from Nintendo and yet surprising at the same time,” implying in a later tweet that the system will have innovative hardware, innovative software and raw power.

First off, I'm not going to believe one website that claims to have sources while other major gaming websites have the same information and sources. I'll go with Project Cafe. And Project Cafe is just a codename. Call it Wii HD, Wii 2, or Project Cafe. It's all the same. We will (hopefully) get the final name at E3.

And yes, Project Cafe is much more original than Wii HD.

NintendoLife, in all honesty, is a terrible fanboy community.

I'll stick with the major gaming sources.

It has a new codename than Project Cafe internally I read but it still was called that for a while. It's not a lie... it was the codename. Now are the specs a lie? Well they haven't revealed them yet so obviously some rumors you might read are going to be untrue. I don't know how you can say a codename that.

Found what I read:

"40 percent to the 3DS, 40 percent to how Nintendo is going to sustain the Wii market for the next year (i.e., updates on Nintendo Selects, maybe a new system color/bundle, possibly a “remember this?” Vitality Sensor reveal). Then move into the new Nintendo strategy of getting gamers back on the couch and socializing. And then show off Cafe. Don’t expect a huge focus – remember when Revolution was revealed on-stage, it was a “look how tiny this thing is!” announcement. Café (a project name I’m told has already been internally abandoned for another) will be similar. “Here’s our controller idea, or at least most of it. Tune in next year. Now talk amongst yourselves.” - Craig Harris, former IGN staffer
