[MP1] Rainbow Road

When PP64 was released today, I decided to go and make a board. And, well, this is what came of it. I decided to take Rainbow Road from Mario Kart and make it into this:

So far, everything seems to work fine, but I want to test an actual match with other people to confirm that everything is ok before releasing it. Happening spaces do nothing at this point in time due to PP64's limitations, and I don't quite know the event that should happen if someone lands on it. I decided to add happening spaces anyway so that it would be possible to get the happening star.

If you have some constructive criticism, feel free to post it here.

You can download the board here, import it into PartyPlanner64, and then save it into an MP1 rom.

I have 3 critiques about your board. I think what I'm saying can help make your board better, and make people want to play on it. Though, of course, you don't have to follow what I'm saying. Just trying to help. :p

1. Background is very dull/boring. Just a plain black background around the path layouts does not get me excited. At the very least, I would add a starry night sky background and maybe some characters around the background, so at least there's something of substance.

2. One way boards can work just fine (Peach's Birthday Cake does :p). However, being forced to visit Bowser is not cool at all. There should be a junction; Maybe a path that's quicker, but the cost is you're forced to see Bowser.

3. I'm a bit worried about how Stars work on this board. If this is a One-Way board with the Classic Star system, that will be very broken. That's very dependent on who gets the best Dice rolls. If you're like me, and you're getting 1, 1, 2 in a span of 3 turns, that's not very fun.

1. I'll try to do something to make it more appealing.

2. There are some parts on the original maps like in luigi's engine room where you have to go see bowser if the star ends up in the bottom left area, but I can understand. However, if I add an extra path or something like that, then there's literally no reason to go the other way where bowser is. shrug Maybe when PP64 gets updated to have more editing options, I'll add something like the shortcuts in Magma Mountain.

3. I'm not really sure how to respond to this. People get terrible rolls in mario party all the time that stop them from getting stars. Maybe have the warp block enabled? :p

Wow i was hoping someone was gonna get on this fast it looks really good so far. I know that its not part of the original board but maybe you can add some extra lanes of road to get through the board faster but put bowser on one of those maybe? Other then that the board looks great. I agree it could use some extra decoration. Maybe use the original mini map of the course instead of the Mario Kart 8 one to show off the colors

I've just tried that, but it seems to just hang on the pencil writing animation. Before, it took like 10 seconds, but now it's just stayed on the screen for about 7 minutes now.

edit: Okay, I ended up refreshing the page and it did save the changes I made, but for some reason I can't save the board to the rom, it just outputs an unchanged one. I guess it has to get pass that animation successfully for me to be able to save it, or something like that?

Well, I'll be sure to come into contact with him soon enough. :p

I tried overwriting a different board such as Birthday Cake since that only has 1 star space but it seems to do the same thing.

.. Oh well, I'll try the 7 star space one and see what people say about it. If they think it'll do better with one space after playing it, then I'll definitely get more help.

For sure, let people try it and see what they think about it.

For me personally, a one-way board with no other junctions is pointless to me. Peach's Birthday Cake is an exception because of the Happening Spaces and the Seed system near the Star. That's what keeps it interesting. That's not going to work on here, so it becomes a game of: Who's the fastest? Which fits Mario Kart I guess :)p), but it's still very boring.

I want to be clear again, I'm just giving advice. Not trying to be like the board police or anything :)P), just giving a potential downloader's point of view.

I recall DK's Jungle Adventure having an alternative path that leads to Bowser that served as a shortcut and could potentially have the star spawn on that path. The downsides were visiting Bowser and skipping out on the Boo on the bottom left corner of the board if the No Boo item wasn't active. So I think the alternative path on your board should work out well. Mario's Rainbow Castle and Peach's Birthday Cake worked out good enough for linear boards, though Rainbow Castle did have some alternative paths that eventually ended the same.

I think the black background is good if you're going for the SNES Rainbow Road look. I think linear boards could work better in Mario Parties 2 and 3, but that's because I'm not that fond of Mario Party 1 with the lack of items and all. What about the Chance Time spaces? I know nobody really seems to like them, I don't either but to me that has always been the charm of that space. Nothing wrong with excluding them but I'm wondering if you didn't want them. I do like your board.

I have thought about making another version of this board for MP2 and 3, but it's not very high on my priority list at the moment. :p I picked 1 in the first place because it was the easiest game to design a board for imo.

I don't like CT either, but it seems kinda wrong to just leave it out. It wouldn't feel like an actual mario party board anyways without something to screw someone over. :p

I just finished playing the board with other people, and I think it was alright, so I'm going to release the board with 7 star spaces.

(I don't have a download link yet since SZ or someone has to approve it in the downloads page :p)

Edit: It's just now been accepted, so you can now download it here! The first post will also be updated to include this link.

Apparently, it was a higher priority than I thought so, because, well...

I know the spaces are misaligned, I don't plan on releasing the board like that, apparently it's a small bug thing in PP64.

Edit: By the way, when I release this MP2 version, should I submit it under the MP2 custom boards as a separate board or bundle it with the MP1 board? Just want to clarify this in case I do the wrong thing...
