Mister Sushi's Film Reviews

Hello I am Mister Sushi and I review new films that are in theatres.
I don't post reviews too often so don't ride my ass if there's a movie you want a review for. Remember I am not a professional critic and I don't make money off this shit, therefore meaning that I am poor and cannot buy movies for myself all the time. Please enjoy.

SINISTER 2 REVIEW
By Mister Sushi

"Sinister 2" is the sequel to the 2012 horror flick "Sinister" and stars James Ransone and Shannyn Sossamon. The film follows Deputy So & So (Ransone) as he tries to uncover the unsolved mystery of the Bughuul, a monster that was praised for being very scary in the first film due to it's subtlety and the way it hid in the background. Sinister 2 seems to turn that on it's head, showing Bughuul as much as the main character in a bio-pic. While this does work on some levels, for the most part it's just not scary anymore.

I cannot describe how strong my feelings are about this movie. And they are not good feelings. Personally, I loved the first Sinister. It was a breath of fresh air from the garbage horror films that Hollywood pumps out like farts on thanksgiving. Sinister 2 is not that breath of fresh air. There are so many things wrong with this movie that I couldn't help but be so very bothered by them. And yeah, I laughed in this movie! At a part that wasn't supposed to be funny. Basically this movie's just plain awful. Let me go into detail.

So the film starts out with a single mother (Sossamon) and her two sons (played by Robert and Dartanian Sloan) who live in a house that's isolated far away from everything, and little do they know that the previous owners of the house were murdered by Bughuul and his child servants, thus continuing Bughuul's chain. Sounding good so far, right? Yeah, it probably would be good, if anyone in this movie could ACT for crying out loud! The main characters in this movie were very poorly chosen, and they're actually just plain awful. And all the kids in this movie too! Now I know that they're kids and they're not expected to be oscar worthy or anything, but I'd at least expect them to act a little bit.

What really bothers me about this movie is that it's not scary. It's a horror film for god's sake! You're supposed to make it scary, not make it full of garbage jump scares which seem to pollute horror movies here and there and everywhere. My favourite horror movie and arguably my favourite movie is "The Babadook" an Australian horror that's really freaky. (check it out) The point is that this movie doesn't use ANY stupid jump scares to "scare" you. This film used real scares. Sinister 2 does not. In fact, I wasn't ever scared in this movie except for in one scene that I'll touch on in a second.

All of that being said, I do have to praise some things about the film. First, the main child actor. Now I know I said the kids in this movie were bad, but not this one. He was actually pretty decent and fairly impressive for a child actor. I can see him starring in all the upcoming YA dystopian garbage flicks. I hope his career stretches long and far, because he has some talent. Also, there is a tape in this movie involving rats and cups and hot coals and it's really disturbing. I liked that scene.

But aside from that, I simply can't think of anything good in this movie. As for the rest of the plot, the deputy gets caught up with this family and he warns them about everything and tells them not to leave the house or else they'll die (to which he is blatantly ignored like all horror movies) and basically just "solves the mystery" which really is just him going around to each plot convenience and STUPID jump scare (which are ALL OVER in this film) to shorten this film's already 2 hour runtime. There are some twists in the story, but they're all just stupid and really just thrown in there just for the sake of having a twist. And not to mention that the ending is very rushed and just plain stupid. It's really just another clichéd horror movie from Blumhouse! Really guys, if you loved the first Sinister then DO NOT see this movie or else you will be very heartbroken, or you will laugh, or you will cry, or you might leave the theatre like I wanted to. That being said, if you love to make fun of movies, then this is the movie for you, because you will laugh, like I did. I'm sure that this is going to make big bucks in the box office, but take my word for it and see something else.

So tell me what you thought about this movie. I think some people will like it because they like Blumhouse bullcrap like The Gallows and whatever. Maybe you'll be scared by it. But I suggest you take my word for it and do not see this movie! Just rent Unfriended or whatever GOOD horror movies that are on DVD if you need some horror film to please you. Please make sure everyone avoids this film. It's an abomination of a horror film. Thank you, and have a nice day.
