Here is a tip to know what mushroom you would get when you land on the mushroom space:Everytime someone lands on it,the boxes reset themselves.Example:Mario picks the small box and gets a mega mushroom the next time someone lands on it the mega mushroom would be in the big box and the mini mushroom in the small box,then it will reset again to mega mushroom in small box mini mushroom in big box.

On the example video, Turn 3, Daisy got a Mega Mushroom from the small box, which means the Mini Mushroom was in the big box. Later that turn, Wario got a Mini Mushroom from the big box, which means the Mega Mushroom was in the small box.

I think that he meant that it applies to that same space. The exact same space that both players land on. I guess we need proof on my assumption too huh?
