I've never really understood the appeal of BBM, maybe because I have unlimited texting so I don't care that its free. Plus I don't know many people with Blackberrys and have never seen the appeal my self (you pay the same monthly for a phone that is way worse than an iPhone or Android phone).

I used to know a lot of people with them, but now everyone I know has an Android phone or an iPhone or a Windows 7 phone. And the people who don't have smartphones like that just have really shitty phones. If you can afford a smartphone, why get a blackberry? The only advantages they have over Android/iOS phones relate to business so I've never understood why a young non-business person would ever want one.

My brother did have a blackberry until he destroyed it so many times that AT&T stopped covering it under the warranty =P

I have BBM and its the shit if you know so many people who have it, otherwise its nothing special and I wouldn't really recommend one over say an Android or iPhone. (Although I dont really like Apple products myself)

I don't get what the big deal is with BBM though. I have unlimited texting so how is it any different?

And yeah, once the era of the iPhones and Android phones started, Blackberrys started losing ground. There are no advantages to having one over an iOS or Android phone unless you're using it for work. And even a lot of businesses have stopped using them because Apple and Google have added a lot more security features to their OSes.

The only reason I care about the Blackberry is because my dad works at RIM. And RIM also pretty much took over half the industrial area in our city.

What's he think of all the recent bad press they've gotten? A while back an ex-employee posted an open letter talking about the problems RIM has & how they basically suck as a company (I didn't read the letter itself, but I believe that was the gist) and I know they ended up responding publicly to it. But I'm curious as to what a current employee thinks of them as an employer and of their current place in the phone market.

I don't know anyone who owns a Blackberry.

It's all about the Android phones now(sadly, of which i do not have).
