You guys may have notice that this forum is going into a MEGA slump. Now, I have some ideas to get us more activity, but you have got to bare with me since these ideas are major.

Now, we all know that you people like Mario Party, but in all honesty, there is not enough players out there to fill an entire forum of active members. Now, here's what i'm suggesting: Get rid of the Mario Party theme and make ourselves into a General Gaming site.

Think about it. We'll get double the members since we wouldn't be talking about strictly Mario Party and Nintendo, and the forum would have a huge rise in activity. We could also add new Boards like an RP Board, Deathmatch Board, or even an Anime Board for all the anitards out there.

I'm not saying we should be like MBF and transform into a SMF-type forum, but we'll be a General Gaming site. Not just Nintendo, but Sony, Microsoft, etc.

So what do you guys think?
 
First, I think expanding the Forum to more subjects and topics is a good idea but the reason we have a Mario Party Forum is because the website is a Mario Party fansite. Truthfully, I never intended on having a Forum in the first place when I was planning the site but I ended up getting one and it obviously had to fit with the main site. Most of the traffic is through the main site so we get a lot of Mario Party fans.

Im all up for more boards that take on different subjects whether it be gaming or something else, but our main focus is always Mario Party because it is a Mario Party fansite. Expanding the Video Games board from just Nintendo and General Gaming to Xbox, PC, etc. is something we can do because almost all of us here are MP fans that play video games. That I think would be a something we can do.

And a Deathmatch board does sound sounds interesting. :p
 
You guys wouldn't have to get rid of the site. You could either do one of two things:

1) Just leave the site as is, and just sponser the forum on there
or
2) Expand the site. Still title it "Super Mario Party Site", but maybe expand towards other video game series as well.
 
I was just reminded by SZ's signature about LoZ Timed Tactics. There is potential to use minisites all linked to the main site (i.e. the domain www.supermariopartysite.com) and then have dedicated forum section for those. Mario Party, being the original focus, will stay at the top of the forum, and then other primary topics will follow, then VG, General and F/S.

Appealing to the masses certainly will increase our likelihood of a greater member database, but there may be some things that need addressing as a result. Firstly, staffing needs to be vamped up, but since not many people have the activity record, experience and the transparency to staff, that will cause problems (heck, it already is. I see a need for a new GMod). Secondly, is it desirable to have the primary activity of a forum spread across so many niches? And technically, MBF to SMF transition wasn't major at all, and I don't see this place preparing to make the MPF to MNF transition. (And that didn't work out too well, anyway).
User quality may also be a concern. There will be users out there who push the limits (I'm not suggesting anyone in this comment btw) just because they see some topic from Google, register, post once in the right topic and become a disaster for staff and users afterwards through forum dramas. I can sympathise with how many of us feel the maturity level atm isn't quite up there, but I cannot condone pushing sexual innuendo to the forefront. Subtlely, perhaps, but nothing like the OMB incident at SMF... (And certainly not in Intro topics, Aegis. Something to keep in your world of yuri >_>)
Also, a possible minor issue is bandwidth, but that's not a concern that needs addressing right now.

My concluding opinion: there is potential in full expansion,  ut we must weigh up what is bad as well as good. MP is the primary focus, but that's not to say it will be joined by things like Timed Tactics.

[Also, I find that just agreeing to what people say above you is a weakness in forming your own opinion. This is a major issue and needs an appropriately sized response.]

So you're saying you want to do the Shrines system like Joey did on Old NC? Not a bad idea, but it would make things kind of disorganized, don't you think?

I'm pretty sure we definitely don't need more staff for the time being. This is a very small and very slow forum, and if we put some sort of General Gaming in here, it would still take some time for activity to rise for there to be any more Staff Members.

I'm not saying we should do something MyNintendo like, but just revamp the forum to make it general for gamers so it becomes more remotely interesting.

How does this have anything to do with trying to revamp the forum? >.>


 
I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE.

I kind of want a Moderator spot now because I'm seeing some posts go back to the days of SMPSF.

So, if any spot is open for a regular Mod position, i'm game.
