While I like both of their appearances, I'm giving this point to Ness, because his signature bat and cap distinguish himself as a kid with lots of potential.

As far as psychokinetic abilities go, both have pretty much the same abilities, but Ness trumps with the ability to paralyze foes and put them to sleep.

Spoiler

Lucas has prevented the recurring villain from corrupting the world with the Dragon. Ness, however, has stopped what is arguably the most disturbing Nintendo boss ever from wrecking havoc in the past.

Ness's courageous personality is something to be admired, however, I'm giving this to Lucas, as his rather traumatized personality makes us feel sympathy towards him, and gives us more reasons to hate that pr

While Lucas has some style in his flashy attacks like Shield and Counter, this point goes to Ness for showing up with a flash when he visits places, and also likes rock.

While Ness is motivated by his mood of exploration, Lucas is motivated to protect the world from destruction by pulling the Seven Needles before Porky does.

Even though Ness has developed new traits during his adventures, Lucas's development is more noticeable as he grows up from a kid to the chosen hero of the world.

The conclusion: Lucas is a great character, but I like Ness better for the interesting traits that he has.
