Ever thought about changing the name or focus to the site?

Even though Mario Party is a big part of this site, it seems like it would be better if it started to shift direction to just being a Nintendo Fan Site. Maybe instead of the Mario Party stuff at the top, maybe put walkthroughs of most of the main mario games and such. I really love this site, but i do think that Mario Party shouldn't be such a big focus to be included in the domain and such. Of course I would love to keep a Mario Party section in the forums, I just want to improve this site with suggestions.

There are plenty of great Nintendo fan sites, and the internet does not need another one. We do something special at MPL, focusing on only Mario news. There aren't too many sites that do that, and I can't find any that do it on a regular basis like we do. That is what makes us unique.

Now, dropping the focus of Mario Party is something that I am constantly debating about, and I have been for years. Ultimately I end up staying with it because Mario Party is an essential element that binds our community. Pretty much everyone on this Forum has some relation to Mario Party. I can consider changing the menus on the main site to focus less on MP, and even here on the Forum, but I feel the name is special to the community and it certainly means a lot to me.

But that's ultimately one of the main problems though. I know I have been expressing this for years now, but the reason why I took my recent sabbatical was because people only focus on the MP aspects here, like activities and games. There's really no discussion on the forum. It's just games and activities. That's what alienates core veterans like myself away from the site because of that emphasis. You say to post more when there isn't activity on the boards, but why bother posting something if nobody is going to post on it? I'm serious, when I was active I tried posting a lot of topics for people to post in, but it's the Activities and Games that eat up the general member's attention and thus the topics had only like 1 or 2 replies. Was it worth it? Not to me.

If you could find someway to balance out discussion and gaming, then the MP focus wouldn't be so much of the problem, and I don't mind at all the "Mario News" theme you have going on. It's just that this forum is lacking something that keeps members like me, who don't like MP at all, here at all. I know it's kind of weird that a guy who doesn't like MP that much just get up and leave, but I have a long history with this community so of course I would like to see at least something that caters to me.

If the members are into MP and love to focus on its aspects in the activities and games, I won't stop them. If this is what they enjoy doing, then there is no reason for it to be a bad thing. I'd love it if more members started new discussions and made regular posts, but its ultimately up to the members and how they want to spend their time. This just happens to be the direction that the community took. I see where you are coming from, and I wish I could get into some in depth discussions, but I can't force that from the members. If you are alluding to a name change, I really don't see that as a solution to the problem.

And to be completely honest, what makes a Forum is not the stats or how many posts there are. I know this isn't what you were implying, but I'm directing this at anyone who does think this way. What makes the Forum is the community. As long as members are logging on and interacting (whether it be through the discussions, games, shoutbox, or even outside the Forum), than the Forum is serving its purpose. What is most important is the friendships that are made and the good times that are had. Topics and discussions are definitely intertwined with this, but don't put numbers over the friendships.

I wasn't implying a name change. I mean, this community was raised as an MP site, which I know means a lot to you. It's just that I personally think that the discussion factor here is literally down the drain and that really turns me off. I am not an Activity guy at all, so what do I do? I post on topics that barely get any posts or if they do, they're very short and nothing interesting. I would be glad talking about casual gaming (which is what the core member base here can relate to, correct me if I'm wrong), even regular Mario, but again, there needs to be more focus on the actual discussion factor. If a topic has very little activity or it's just very boring one-liner posts, then obviously something is wrong on that regard when the other boards like Activities are chock full of posts and online time.

Didn't we have something like this happen before? I forgot what plan of action we did but it sure helped boost the other posting activities in the other boards. If I can remember exactly what though....

To be honest, I think that he's doing a good thing on the forum here. I'm hardly interested on forums and is embarassed enough usually and I decided to join, finishing being interested enough, even if it took long enough to actually join. I think it's a project he cares and I really appreciate that he's doing something like this because it's a good place where he's trying to involve (but not forcing) people about talking about the game and doing some special activities that are really interesting to do like the current one of this December 2012 month, I hardly saw a forum with these kind of events. Of course, I understand it's surely not the kind of discussion you actually like to have... although for me I think it's my kind of place because of how the community and the website/forum is. I like to be on a place like this one. And personally, here's what I would have to say on his comments here. And yeah I know, it's a lot of things I have to say!

You know, I am that kind of person, actually. I prefer games like Mario Party and Mario Kart (the games that we can play with a lot of characters and everything like that) compared to the games where it's mostly restricted to a particuliar character when I talk about Mario (but strangely, it's the only one I like that I am telling this...) and I do like to talk about the Mario Party franchise, and a lot because most of my actual posts are here. (I have nearly 300 posts of my current post count of 522 that are here.) Also, the game is really relaxing and a lot of fun and I like how the game is mostly in a childish environement compared to some other games around... (I like these kind of things and am mostly playing these kind of things, like, 99% of the time.) I think that your website and forum are really intriguing for this kind of thing because there isn't a lot of websites that are about Mario Party (both in the two languages I am speaking.) And personally, that would have reduce my chance of joining or maybe even get me away without something like this...

Personally, I think that I am already doing more posts that I never did on any other forum in the past 6 years. I used to lost interest into forums because some people were always bashing me and all. But strangely, this one looks to be more appealing than any others because I feel like it's a better place and that this is a really good communauty, the members and staff are nice and comprehensive (at some points and depending of some "things"...), and I also think that you are devoted to what you are doing and that you do like to hear people opinions and being with some people that share the same kind of interest. And unline a few staff I used to see somewhere else, I think you are really helpful and devoted and you care about what you are doing.

I think that your website name is really unique and sounds good even if I am unsure what "Legacy" actually means. But I really like how it's Mario Party-like, it's a good idea and somewhat attract me in a way.

The community, yeah! Even if I or some others don't do a lot of posts, it's probably not because they are not implying on something. It's because they actually prefer to use the forum in another kind of way. Like, I prefer looking at the things on the forum, being on the shoutbox and using this private chatting that was really awesome... more rather than posting because I don't always feel like doing so and I do feel unconfortable at times too, to be honest. And yes, it can have some purpose with interacting around, whatever it is, seeking information, telling opinions, chatting and making friends. And personally, it's a really friendly place and I'm sure that you actually like when people are happy and are having good times on your website. I've never actually been satisfied of being on a forum except this one, which I been active for near 10 months at this specific moment of my post (I never did that before, to be honest...) and seriously, if I, myself, could be helpful and involved on a website like this with all these good members and this website, I would do it and surely enjoy it and making a good amount of things to make people even more happier of being around. And once again, the most important, is to have a good time which I do. Some inactivities here that get me away at times, but I don't think it would make me get away completely unless something really awful do happen.
Overall, I would say that it's an awesome place and that it's a great place to have good times and that I should thanked you for all of this generosity and the time you are taking for here. I really like this place because I actually don't have any chance to share my passion in real life (and by how people find myself old to play this... yeah... it's not good...) and I think that this place is a good place to do so. And if I joined, it's because of how friendly and good this place is. And yeah, maybe one day, I might have the wish to be more involved, who knows... (Just hoped I didn't said something wrong because I feel embarassed a little bit and it took time to get the courage to post this.)

That blue font is obnoxious, not even gonna bother read that.

And I think this site has been successful for being a Mario [Party] site for years, and if it's something the owner is passionate about as well as majority of the members, then keep it as is.

I think Aegis's problem is more of not knowing many people on here period. In "the old days" it was a lot of MPF people on here who all knew each other, now it's like the next generation or whatever lol. They're just wired differently than him/MPF or whatever, they like to play a lot of activities while we spent a lot of time goofing off in a chat thread or something.

It's not that I don't want to meet new members or that I'm "wired differently" from the new crowd, it's just when I come on a forum I expect a lot of discussion, not just playing Activities. Activities can be fun, I'm not dissing them, it's just that seems to be the general focus on the forum, which leaves a lot of members who just like to chat out of the loop. I think there needs to be an equal balance of both fun and discussion.

Well like I said majority of the people like to do activities and play Mario Party in Activity Central so that balance is not gonna be there right now.

No one makes new topics here so that kinda kills the chatting part. :p

I think this is the best way to put it. I'd love if people started posting in actual discussions, but right now we have the crowd that is more into activities, and taking that away or altering it to force more discussion is not the right way to do it.

May I know what's wrong with it, actually? Because seriously, I think it's not good to tell me this. I feel upset enough because of how  this have been said, in front of me, since it was only to show something, which is my opinion. Not sure I will want to post a lot after all of this... I want to show complete and good opinions rather than a little opinion. And if it's only because I write in blue, it's not good, not good at all, and I feel judged entirely. If it's because of the text, maybe it's because you either don't like to read much or hate me. (And personally, the bigger text is only to show how I perceive the forum in general, and I know I have a lot of things to say about it.)

I would if I would not have to take a "somewhat" rude comment like this one above this quote. To post more, I need to be cheered up and helped, while being comfortable and feel like posting in the specific topic, it won't be with that kind of comments especially without knowing the reason. I know I'm not much comfortable here, but I just want to explain the situation. But it's not this that will make me stop because I do care about being here and I'm sure that some people here do like me.

It's because of the blue. Like I said, it's obnoxious to have to deal with. Just use normal font color like everyone else. And you don't need my approval to post. If my comment actually prevents you from posting because it makes you sappy or whatever, then you have deeper issues besides not being able to post in a few forum topics... I'm just being real with you, I'm not gonna pretend I like the color or that I actually read that big blob of blue.
