WARNING (PLEASE READ): There is a current bug that causes the Page numbers on-screen to stop updating for a turn. From testing and analyzing some recorded footage, it appears the numbers 4, 8, 9, and 10 cause the Page numbers to stop working when it has to display those, or shortly after it has displayed those. At most, this is an inconvenient bug that shouldn't impact gameplay very much. It has been found this has to do with in-game functions erasing important memory addresses that are being used by the page display event. No fix or workaround has been found for this yet.
Actual Description: The Ghastly Graveyard is a magical place full of mystery, as many do not dare to get close. Maybe it's due to the Boos sprinkling ketchup all over to scare people out? Or perhaps it's the ominous creature in the back with gigantic skeleton-like hands? Whatever it is, this place attracted Jeanie on a business venture, where she opened up a Library. She doesn't get a lot of business, but the few people that have gone have been quite pleased, although they weren't seen for long after.
This board was made to bring a mechanic similar to items, but with its own twist. It also plays with other gimmicks such as changing Space types, special camera controls, and more!
The effects of Happening Spaces, Board Events, and other mechanics will be explained below, if you'd like to go into the board blind, please ignore the spoiler tagged area.
Core Mechanics:
[Better Barter]: Here is a list of the groups used when casting Better Barter. For example, anybody has that a Mushroom may get any of the other 3, while someone holding a Lucky Lamp would get a Magic Lamp, and vice versa.
Passing Events:
Happening Spaces:
[Boo]: You will need to offer an Item as tribute for Boo to appear.
FAQs:
- Players will have the ability to cast Basic Spells at the start of their turn. Spells have effects similar to items, except they either have built-in hindrances or can be unreliable, unlike items. To cast a Spell, you'll need a specific number of Pages. Pages can be obtained at the Library or on some Happening Spaces. You can only hold up to 10 Pages in your Spellbook. If you cast a Spell, you won't be able to use an item that same turn, unless the Spell used allows you to.
[Better Barter]: Here is a list of the groups used when casting Better Barter. For example, anybody has that a Mushroom may get any of the other 3, while someone holding a Lucky Lamp would get a Magic Lamp, and vice versa.
Passing Events:
- [Jeanie's Library]: You will be able to purchase up to 5 Pages here, for 3 coins each.
- [Tower of Power]: You will be able to use Power Spells here. Power Spells are far stronger than Basic Spells, which is why their Page cost is significantly higher. Power Spells have no built-in hindrance, however. Being protected by Magic Veil will not prevent the user from casting Power Spells.
Happening Spaces:
- [Pages in the Air]: You will obtain 2 Pages. Afterwards, you will be made a tempting offer to sacrifice your Happening Bonus point for 2 additional Pages.
- [The Magic Bridge]:This 5-Space bridge starts as a different Space type every game (Blue, Red, Battle, Bowser, Bank, Happening). Players will be able to change the Space type to anything using the Basic Spell "Bridge Change". Some of the Space types behave slightly differently on this bridge:
- Blue Space: The landing player will gain 6 additional coins.
- Red Space: The landing player will lose 6 additional coins.
- Bank Space: The passing player will contribute 2 coins to the bank's pot per space. The landing player will only gain half the bank's pot.
- Happening Space: A harsh wind will blow away 3 of your Pages.
[Boo]: You will need to offer an Item as tribute for Boo to appear.
FAQs:
- Q: Seriously, what does Metronome do? A: Ugh, fine...
- Q: Does Bonus Bogus Coin Star increase it at the end of the game, or at the moment of casting? A: At the moment of casting, meaning if your Coin Star was 50 and then increased to 70 via this effect, getting 71 or more coins later will essentially remove the boost.
- Q: Does the Koopa Bridge Bank share the same pot as the normal Koopa Bank? A: Yes, it does.
- Q: What's an Invisible Space on Bridge Change? A: It's an invisible space, think of it like when you step on a junction and your remaining roll is unchanged. This essentially allows you to remove the spaces on the bridge.
- Q: When Metronome changes the Shopkeeper, does it stay like that the whole game? A: Yes, but another Metronome use could change it to the other Shopkeeper. Also, if someone uses a Cellular Shopper, it will return the Item Shop to normal.
- Q: When Metronome makes that Star static, how does it work? A: When the game starts on MP3, the game gives every star spawn an index from 0 to 7 (8 stars total) and lists them in the order they will spawn. What this Metronome effect does is that it takes the whole list and turns it into the number of the current active Star. For example, if 6 Stars have been bought and this effect happens, that means the next 2 Stars will remain in the same location. Afterwards, it will start moving again because the cycle resets.
- Q: If I'm on the same space as someone else and use Zap Wire, do they get hit right away? A: No, the player must pass the Zap Wire, being on the space already does not count.
- Q: Does Zap Wire activate on the START Space? A: No. You can't ever really pass START, so it wouldn't work.
- Q: Do you have to have an item to use Protean Ace? A: Yes, although you do not necessarily have to use it.
- Q: Does Dicey Junction affect someone going in Reverse? A: It won't, and the player will retain the Dicey Junction effect until they reach a junction without being in Reverse.
- Q: Does Zap Wire stay on a Blue Space that was replaced by a Star? A: Yes, it does.
- Q: Can I use Protean Ace if I got Item Locked? A: No, you can't.
Bugs & Glitches:
- As stated in the warning at the top, there is an issue that causes the numbers in the page display to stop refreshing for a turn. It seems like it is related to which number is being displayed or about to be displayed on-screen. The numbers 4, 8, 9, and 10 seem to be the problematic ones. If you have recorded footage of this happening, I'd love to analyze it, as it may point us in the direction of the issue so we can resolve it.
- Due to the complexity of the board, AIs are only able to use 1 of each Spell type, and they always chase the Star (depending on difficulty). All the AI code was done last minute, and even though I was able to get the CPUs to complete 2 games without crashes or glitches, that doesn't mean there isn't a possible scenario where they'll bug out.
- Metronome's "Item Shuffle" effect can happen even when nobody has any items. This does not cause any glitches or issues, but it does cause player confusion. I am currently reviewing the best way to make this effect not be selected under this condition.
