Super Mario Bros. Wonder, a brand new 2D side-scroller, was announced during today’s Nintendo Direct.
Gone is the expected “New” from the title and in is an incredibly colorful approach to the tried and true 2D Mario formula. Grabbing a new item called the Wonder Flower warps and twists the world by giving life to inanimate objects, summoning leagues of enemies your way, or even changing your character’s appearance. Different levels have different Wonder Flower effects, so you never really know what you’re going to get.
Who is playable this time around? Let’s see:
- Mario
- Luigi
- Peach
- Daisy
- Yoshi
- Yellow Toad
That’s right, Peach is officially back in the main cast of a 2D Mario game, and Daisy is coming along with her. Yoshi is also a playable character, and not just when another character wants the extra jump!
Other new details include the addition of talking guide flowers, the Elephant power-up and transformation, a detailed world map, collectible Wonder Seeds, and plenty of wacky new enemies and characters.
