Amiibo support is also included, but it’s limited to the Mario and Sonic amiibos, along with the many Mario variations. Scanning in an amiibo will allow you to power up a Mii costume and give it better stats, but only for the next 24 hours.
Speaking of Mii costumes, the game is set to feature 270 different costumes for your playable Mii character. Training at Champions Road will get you Training Points that will allow you to level up your Mii and boost its stats. Special gear can also be used to upgrade stats as well. The costumes and the gear can be purchased at a shop by trading in Apples and Melons earned through training.
A story mode is set to appear as well. A rivalry between the Mario Gym and the Sonic Gym breaks out, and it’s up to you which side you stick with. The events and sports you train in will depend on which side you pick, and you’ll either earn a Mario or Sonic costume at the end of the mode.
Finally, the game is set to have a Full Marathon feature that will task you with running a 42.195km marathon with your 3DS in sleep mode. In reality, the game wants you to make 42,195 steps as you go about your normal day. The further you get in this Full Marathon mode, the more costumes and Apples and Melons you unlock. You can also StreetPass during this mode and have other Miis come and cheer you on!
Mario & Sonic at the 2016 Olympic Games for the Nintendo 3DS is set to release on February 18 in Japan. No word on a release in other regions yet, but keep an eye out for that soon!
