Week of Mario Mods Day 2: Super Mario Galaxy Showcase

The talent and enthusiasm behind the Mario modding community is unlike any other. Countless Mario titles have been deeply modified and experimented with, and this week Mario Party Legacy will be highlighting five different Mario games and series that feature a dedicated and fascinating hacking and modding community.

Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 | Day 5

Super Mario Galaxy 2 was released back in May of 2010, and since then a hacking community has sprung up for the game and its predecessor. In this short time, programs like Whitehole have been released, allowing fans to add and remove objects and edit galaxies. Others have been able to import their own custom music and entire level models, showing just how much potential Super Mario Galaxy hacking has to offer.

But it’s much easier said than done. Super Mario Galaxy is obviously much more complex than other games with strong modding communities like Super Mario 64 and the New Super Mario Bros series. There is still so much to learn and so much to discover, and it will take time before we see full scale hacks and fully functioning levels. The game won’t document itself.

With the said, the community is still chugging away, and we even have a few projects to showcase. These projects are still miles away from being released, but they should be able to give you a taste of what the dedicated fans of the community are working on. Better, these projects can inspire you to take a look into the Super Mario Galaxy hacking community and contribute in whatever way you can!

Except it is nowhere near as easy to use. This isn’t Nintendo’s development tool, nor is it an easy tool like Mario Maker. Both of those would be easier to use.

The Super Mario Galaxy 1/2 hacking community is currently small but it is growing somewhat. The Super Mario 64 DS hacking scene is growing and there is also the Super Mario Sunshine hacking scene which is still young but growing well.

We said Neo Mario Galaxy will be like Super Mario Galaxy 1:
– Bigger galaxies: Planets and obstacles are everywhere.

– No more green stars!
– Ice Flower and Red Star available.
– A new HUB!
