There hasn’t been a marketing cross-over this ridiculous since Hatsune Miku and Domino’s.

Treese On Games is a new “Sunday” column where Tyler Treese takes a look back at all of the week’s gaming news and gives his thoughts.

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS once again stole the bulk of the news this week taking plenty of headlines due to its Japanese release and the release of its demo. I really enjoyed what I played of the demo although it hasn’t relieved any of the worries I have about the game. I still don’t think it will give most fans what they want out of a Smash Bros. game which is local multiplayer fun. Some of the worry comes from the recent Giant Bomb ‘Unfinished’ video which showed the game hitching up semi-often during local multiplayer. Lag breaks the illusion of playing together and while some lag is expected to be found online its quite a bummer to see it during local multiplayer. All that being said I can’t wait for October to come and to play the full game. I’ll just be playing it by myself more than I would want to.

  • One of the interesting tidbits to come out of the Japanese release of Smash Bros. was that you could use the Nintendo 3DS as a controller for the Wii U version. While I can’t see anyone preferring to play on a 3DS rather than an actual controller it is a nice alternative for those who don’t have four controllers yet want some four-player multiplayer fun.
  • A Super Smash Bros. For Wii U Amiibo Starter Bundle was spotted on Wal-Mart’s website recently. It retails for $99.99 and includes three Amiibos (Mario, Link & Pikachu). This deal would be intriguing if it actually saved consumers money in the process. Hopefully the price point isn’t final.
  • There are quite a few Mario games I have never experienced before and I would like one of the sections in this column to be my write-ups on checking out some of the games I have missed. I want you guys to choose in the comments if I should play either Mario Pinball Land or Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga first. Don’t worry if your choice loses since i’m sure i’ll play the next game eventually.
  • Part two of the Strange Enemies of Sarasaland Legacy Lookback should be up next week. Basically had back-to-back reviews to write this week so I just haven’t had time to sit down and record footage. Reviews need to be thorough after all!
