Hey guys, Tyler here! I’ll be asking the question this week since I bugged Michael to let me do it so lets get onto it! The day has come, Super Smash Bros. for 3DS is finally out! In Japan. Thankfully to make the wait easier (or even worse) Nintendo has released a demo for Super Smash Bros. for 3DS onto the Nintendo eShop. Right now only certain Club Nintendo Platinum members have access but hopefully some of our readers are among the lucky ones!
But before we get into the question from this week, let’s take a look at the opinions from last QotW. Last week we asked how you were going to deal with the Japanese release of Smash Bros. and most of you said that you were going to look at some spoilers. One brave soul that is trying to avoid spoilers is user Zympherior who probably won’t read this since you practically have to stay off the internet to avoid spoilers for a whole month! With that out of the way let us get to this weeks question…
What are your impressions of the Super Smash Bros. for 3DS demo?
If you were lucky enough to have access to the demo I would like to know how you are enjoying it so far. Personally, I’m having a lot of fun with it so far and some of my hesitations from the E3 demo have been alleviated. Who is your favorite character to use and what do you think of the one stage included?
Now if you don’t have the demo I would like to ask you how you feel about Nintendo releasing the demo to only a select few this week? While everyone will gain access to the demo next week, the wait has to be tough right? Is it a smart decision to reward Club Nintendo Platinum members with a week of early access?

I love the demo! I think that this game’s controls feel surprisingly good with the only weird one being the grab. So far I really LOVE Villager. The items are fun and the Pokeballs and such are awesome! I’m just saying… Villager’s standard B is probably the most entertaining move ever. That paired with burying people and then dropping the bowling ball!
I’m still having a few problems dashing. I don’t really like using the circle pad that much. Hopefully the full game lets you change to d-pad controls. I should ask someone who imported about that.
Tell me about it. My first 3DS had the Circle Pad come off after much use, and that happened during the summer, before my vacation, of course. Now I fear the same thing will happen to my Circle Pad on my Yoshi Edition 3DS XL, now that the Circle Pad is required to use to execute moves.
Just asked Neal from NWR about it. He told me he would check later 😀
Great. I knew this was gonna happen: http://www.gonintendo.com/s/237360-warning-go-easy-on-your-circle-pad-when-playing-smash-bros-3ds
It didn’t happen to me for Smash, but after seeing this, gotta be more careful.
Me too. Happened to me 2 months ago playing too much MK7…
My hands get sweaty when I play but other than that my hands don’t slip too much or anything. I believe there are controller options in the game so you can change it 🙂 I probably will too just to keep the circle pad intact
Honestly, they could have it released yesterday instead releasing it next Friday, because there’s alot of fans begging for codes, even though the demo only has 5 characters and one only stage to play on:P
I saw some people were selling the demo codes for $15 on eBay. And people were buying them. Yikes.
I wouldn’t even pay a single buck for the demo lol. Rather just wait either a week or the full release. People are so money hungry lmao…
My question for those who are buying codes: If you want Smash Bros. that badly and are willing to waste money why not import it?
I think it’s a good marketing move because this is causing the demo to be much more demanded and therefor making sure everyone on the internet hears about it. And of the demo is so popular, imagine the game 🙂
We were only one day late with this. Considering last time we were several months late I would consider this an improvement. Let Michael know if you think I should ask more questions!
It’s fun! I found myself really delving into the Tips section, there really is a lot to learn! For example, many characters actually have meteor smashes now. And it made me wonder if the developers adopted fan-coined terms like hitstun and shieldstun. I also wish at least Final Destination was also available, the stage selection is kind of lonely. But it’s still fun! It’s also too bad my L and R buttons broke, lol, so I’m having to resort to playing without shields, dodges, or grabs. I hope that the full game offers the ability to modify controls, like in… Read more »
I haven’t dived too deep into that yet.
To be honest i’m more excited to collect trophies in the full game than actually fighting. I love the trophies in those games. Learn so much from them!
I’m enjoying the demo, doing well with most of the available characters, except Mega Man and Villager (but only at times), and it’s fun playing the special demo. I did have my practice, but I may need more practice with the two characters I’m having a bit of trouble with. I prefer to unlock the content and earn more trophies and stuff, there’s so much history about Nintendo that most of us still don’t know about. And how many tips are there? The great thing about this special demo is about the unlimited plays and earning coins before the final… Read more »
i’m glad the coins carry over. Wasn’t 100% sure about that but I figured they wouldn’t bother surfacing that information if they were not going to transfer.
Actually, they do not. At first I heard they do carry over, but no. The FAQ in Nintendo support clarified on it.
Wow are you serious? That sux (srry for my language btw)
Unfortunately, I am serious.
I’m loving the demo! The tips section is a bit pointless, but Smash is real fun. Battlefield is a very basic but fun stage. I think the characters they chose for the demo is a bit weird. They only put in one third party character. So, my opinionz on the characters. *Mario: Overall well rounded, and satisfying to control. *Link: My favorite. A bit slow, but is really powerful and packs a lot of punch (or sword). *Pikachu: Can be powerful but his moves feel confusing. *Mega Man: Fantastic recovery and great Side Smash, but really weak and short ranged.… Read more »
I like the selection of characters. It has probably the three most identifiable characters of the series and two newcomers. Really nice for people to get used to playing with Villager and Mega Man before the game is out.
I love it. The new characters are all great (though I need some real practice with Villager) and the veterans are also a lot of fun. I’ve already played some of the multiplayer with a friend and it is AWESOME.
I love the demo! That Villager gameplay is awesome! (Except when im not him and he steals boomerangs from me)
Anyone have a spare demo code ? I’ll do anything in return
All of my excitement for Villager was not wasted, he is hilarious and a good fighter!
yes he is a very strong fighter I am a huge AC fan So a free4all on the Island with just villager just looks so fun can’t wait
I got lucky and got a code what I got to say about the demo – It’s crazy fun perfectly fuses Melee and Brawl speed and action together I’ve been playing since 1pm yesterday 🙂 – All the characters are fun to play as just wish Sonic, Pac-Man, Wii Fit Trainer, & Rosalina were playable however there’s a rumor going around on Smashboard saying if you get 20k in coins you can unlock Pac-Man in the demo hoping that’s true plus having a few unlockables in the demo would be good -Speaking of coins I noticed something after getting a… Read more »
I think more stuff pops up because you have simply played it more. If you play once you might not see anything cool but if you play ten times you have a higher chance.
So i played the special demo tx to Mariofan3110 and I must say they had to make the original 12 available. So my opinion i like the new characters, one stage is not fun, i love how all items are available.I got unlucky because i never got Waluigi as assist trophy XD I will give it a 8/10 because i can’t stop playing it 🙂
MARIOFAN3110 FTW!!!!!! HE’S OUR SAVIOR!
My thoughts and things I noticed so far: -The speed of the game is perfect I think. It’s a nice mix of Melee and Brawl. -Controls are really weird at first, but you’ll get used to it. -The character you play as, seems to affect the Assist Trophies (f.e. I often get Ghirahim when playing as Link, and I often get Isabelle when playing as Villager, Chain Chomp as Mario, Elec Man as Mega Man). This could be a coincidence though. -Link has improved imo. I could never play as him well, but now I’m alright with him I think.… Read more »
I think basically the same as you. I can’t seem to get a very wide variety of assist trophies though! I think you have to unlock them in the game? Or maybe I have bad luck haha. I keep getting mother brain, dark samus, ghirahim, knuckle joe, adn andross. For pokemon I get Dedenne, Fennekin, Kyruem, and Gogoat.
I don’t think the demo has all of the assist trophies.
That’s what I’m thinking too haha
Yeah, it seems like there are only a few assists and trophies in the game. I think there’s a selection of like 8/9 assists and Pokémon that you can get.
Another thing is that I’m kinda afraid of breaking my circle pad now.
I like the idea of the demo it stops you being so impatient for the release of the game and for the undersiders a chance to play the game to decide if they want to purchase it or not and makes the HYPE trains even stronger
I’m not gonna get the demo. I could save a little bit more money for other upcoming games like Skylanders or Woolly World.
Demos are free
But they cost blocks or something like that; you start out with I think 20,000.
You can delete the demo when the game comes out.
THAT MUCH!! O.o I can’t download the demo that way. I have ony 2,000 block left.
The demo is less than 1,000 blocks
What a relief. Thanks by the way.
Oops they are over 1,000 but less than 2,000
It woks for me, I’ll probably keep the demo just during a few days.
“cost blocks”
blocks are just another term for memory. Its not a resource you are paying for stuff in lol
“Not paying for a demo”
Sorry, but when did people have to pay for samples again?
Guys… This game is so glitchy in Japan! They are going to have to release some patches. Also in the demo Villager can stop Links final smash :0
Sakurai knows about that, version 1.1 is coming Monday (tomorow), Sakurai is expecting that all is solver until October 3rd, it’s the price Japan need to play for they get the game before 😛
Man I love this demo -This game played wonderfully and playing against friends got intense -MegaMan and Villager are my best characters -Mario is really good and balanced as always -Link is noticeably better than before -I can’t seem to get used to Pikachu this time around, I don’t know what it is though -I didn’t get a variety of different assist trophies, mainly Ghirahim, Isabelle, and Lyn -CPU AI seems to be smarter this time around -Villager’s recover options are outstanding, but can be risky -I was a bit surprised that Kirby wasn’t playable in this demo -I had… Read more »
Villager can move around the stage SOOO easily. He has really strategic and simple moves. The pocket is probably one of the most easy to excecute and hard to avoid things ever! Pocket a bobomb and then throw it 30 seconds later!
Yeah Villager is easily one of the best characters Sakurai has ever made for smash. Grabbing another villager’s pot then hitting them with it when they lest expect it is especially satisfying imo.
I am so excited to play as Wii Fit Trainer, Duck Hunt, Palutena and for some reason I can’t explain… Dr. Mario. (Mostly the first three!)
I’m a “newcomer” to the SSB games, and I’ve already liked this one. I would prefer if there were more characters or stages, but it’s good for a free demo.
P.S: I already won a level 9 CPU 😀
Heh, congrats on that, Sergio Ros Val! I wonder if you can do the same thing with three computers at once?
I can handle 3 CPUs on Lvl 9 with Link, Mario, and Pikachu in the demo.
Congrats -_-
Lookout, we’ve got a badass over here.
I just got like 13 KOs on a 1-on-1 lvl 9 COM because I got the home run bat. LOL
Demo is awesome. It’s forcing me to really figure out how these five characters work and I’m learning so much about the little intricate moves and techniques that I probably would not have stumbled upon otherwise.
I never would have thought I’d pick the FD version more than the normal version. I always thought having items was better, doesn’t seem to be the case anymore!
The Demo is just increasing my hype, because It’s sooo fun! I’ve really learned how to use Villager well. But the thing I dislike is that they have the whole freaking starting roster in your face, with only 5 characters unlocked! GRRR
I didn’t get a code yet so I’m still waiting for the demo to be released publicly, but I’m still hyped to play it
