Super Smash Bros. for 3DS Tournament Slated for Comic-Con

For the first time ever, a Super Smash Bros. for 3DS tournament will be held on July 25 at San Diego Comic-Con. Nintendo announced this morning that the event is open to those at the convention, but slots are limited and players are selected on a first-come, first served basis. For those at home, Nintendo will be streaming the event on their Twitch channel just as they did for the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U tournament.

Check out the full press release below:

Nintendo will be hosting its first-ever tournament for the Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS game at San Diego Comic-Con on July 25. Fans are invited to come to the Nintendo Gaming Lounge at the Marriott Marquis & Marina located at 333 W. Harbor Drive (adjacent to the San Diego Convention Center) for a chance to participate.

Starting at noon, there will be a preliminary round in which groups of four competitors battle it out, with the winner advancing. During the finals, players will duke it out one-on-one to determine the top smasher. Tournament slots are limited, and fans will be able to sign up the day of the event on a first-come, first-served basis.

For fans not able to attend San Diego Comic-Con, tournament action will be streamed live on Nintendo’s Twitch channel at http://www.twitch.tv/Nintendo. Additional Nintendo Gaming Lounge activities will be announced in the future.

I’m glad Nintendo is embracing the competitive scene for Smash Bros. even if I personally couldn’t care less about it. Hope that scene enjoys the game but at the end of the day the game shouldn’t be tailored around a small minority of players. Which is why I find it hilarious when people start complaining about small tweaks like this is Street Fighter 3.

Well, I won’t participate (unfortunately), but I’ll see it streaming. And it’s good to see that Nintendo is giving to the 3DS version the same importance as the Wii U, because until now was the Wii U who get more screenshots, attention and events.

The Wii U version should be getting more attention. It needs to be a system seller. Its also the far better version of the game. Why focus on an inferior product?

Although I think they have been focusing on both versions pretty well with the daily miiverse posts. I don’t feel like either have been ignored.

Inferior? So it’s graphics aren’t as good as the WiiU version. So what? Graphics are just an extra…..I want you to tell me, what makes this version inferior BESIDES its graphics because Smash 64 graphics are bad compared to today’s Nintendo graphics and many people consider it great.

Besides the WiiU version is gonna get plenty of attention when the Smash Bros 3DS comes out, after that happens their focus all their attention on the WiiU, of course they’ll have to keep watch on it…..

I really hope there isn’t a gamebreaking issue like Pokemon X and Y had.

Dude, i’ve played both versions for about an hour apiece. The Wii U version is superior. 3ds version is good but the Wii U version is stellar. Played more polish and isn’t restricted by the 3ds hardware (i found it hard to dash and you couldn’t use dpad for movement in the demo. also the gameplay gets really cluttered on 3ds’ screen).

Also quit acting like graphics don’t matter in games. They do. A lot actually.

I’ve actually have seen peoples review about the 3DS….the only complaint i’ve heard is the same as yours….the d-pad, the small screen, and it lags a bit. Now here are my answers to those situations…. 1: Nintendo will try to make some sort of Gamecube controller attachment for the 3DS….TRY….not 100% sure if they’ll make it. 2: 3DS XL….it’s been proven for a while now that we can’t really play Smash on a 2DS or a regular 3DS….. 3: They work on it, Sakurai said at E3 the 3DS version was literally almost done but yet he delayed the game… Read more »

3ds xl doesn’t fix the problem it just stretches the screen. you see the same amount of stuff. its perfectly playable on. 3ds and 2ds.

All I said was that the wii u version is better. I’m not being critical of the 3ds game.

also a gamecube adapter? lol. its a portable game. that is ridiculous.

I’m not far from San Diego, but this tournament is on the day before I leave for vacation. Curses. Doubt I’ll attend, though. For watching online, maybe I’ll do that.

The place where I go annually, Lake Tahoe. Though it’s becoming less fun each year as most of my cousins and my sister have jobs now.
