Countdown to Mario Kart 8: Online Features

ONE DAY PEOPLE! May 30 is almost upon us. Time seems to have slowed down a bit, so let’s take one last time to look at one more aspect of the highly anticipated Mario Kart 8!

Online has been a big part of the Mario Kart series since it was first introduced in Mario Kart DS. It grew a huge community with Mario Kart Wii, and it took online a step further when it introduced communities in Mario Kart 7. Now we are about to experience the next iteration of Mario Kart online with Mario Kart 8.

Mario Kart 8 introduces tournaments, a feature similar to the communities of Mario Kart but with a lot more customization and options. You’ll be able to set a time and date for these tournaments, and you can even set them on a recurring basis. Voice chat is also being included, but it’s limited to the waiting room between levels and only with friends.

Mario Kart TV has a huge presence not only in the game itself, but in the online community as well. Highlight reels can be uploaded directly to YouTube from the Wii U and subsequently posted to Miiverse. Being able to see highlights from friends, especially highlights from Community Nights, is going to be a blast!

What are you most excited for in terms of online in Mario Kart 8? Anything you wish was added or removed? Do you like the change to only being able to pick from three tracks in random online matches? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
